I'm sorry if this has already been posted.
I was reading ESPN the Magazine today which said that the Clippers are not interested in paying Olowokandi big money and would possibly trade him for Ming, and then go to trade Odom for whoever can replace him.
Kandi is certainly not worth the max,but the Clippers would have to look for matching salaries to get Ming instead of having to pay him the max.I don't know if this would work salary wise but would Ming plus Moochie and a filler like T-Mo add up to around 8 million? If that works out I would be willing to make that deal and get Kandi on the Rockets.
On the other hand if the Clippers don't want to make a deal the Rockets could retain Ming as well.

I'm just not sold on the Kandi Man. I think he is lazy and though he played well in the latter half of last season it could be just to get him more money in a contract. Living here in LA i've seen him many many times and he disappears in games often and get's critized by his own teamates often too. Sometimes I think he's alot like Cato, but with a little more offense. And even Cato dropped 20+ pts on him in a game earlier. He was arrested earlier in the year and in a LA Times article he said that changed his life and now he has motivation to play. He said before that he was just unmotivated and didn't know what to do with life. For some one to get paid millions and not know if he wanted to play? I don't know what to think after that. I hope he isn't playing well just to get a contract then go back to being the before Kandi Man. IMHO think he's going to be the next Benoit Benjamin. Just a player that plays OK and has his moments but never will live up to his potiential.

I don't know, it seemed like he had really worked on his game this season, and got very comfortable in the post.

But I would be reluctant to have both Kandi and Cato.

I would definitely do this though:

    Ming
    Cato

    for

    Kandi
    #12

I'm a big fan of Cato, and a big fan of Kandi. More importantly, I'm a big fan of the ROckets, so I don't know if it's smart having 16M tied up in one position.

Maybe if the Clippers REALLY wanna win next season, and so do we, this (considering we get Ming of course):

    Ming
    Cato
    Moochie
    #15

    for

    Kandi
    Odom
    Dooling

It's basically, Kandi for Ming. They'd rather have Ming, I (and I hope the Rox) would rather have an experienced player. Then Moochie for Dooling is heavily in their favour. Cato and the #15 for Odom is in their favour. Good trade?

Of course, Dooling and Odom will have extensions to match salaries (if that works).

    Rox:

    Kandi/Griffin/WIllis or MCE
    Mo T/Griffin/T-Mo
Odom/Rice/T-Mo >> Rice or Odom can start, Odom gets more min.
    Mobley/Torres
    Francis/Dooling/2nd rounder (Juan Dixon?)

    Clipps:

Cato/Ming >> up to them who starts, advantages both ways
    Brand/#8/Miles
    Miles/Maggette
    Q-Rich/Maggette
Mcinnis/Moochie >> excellent combo, up to them who starts

Both teams improve big time. They have a hell of a bench, plus a VERY good defensive team. We have an average at best defensive team, but an offensive juggernaut. All 5 can score, and we can score from anywhere.

    Thoughts?

sane, that's an awesome trade, seems to be fair for both sides. of course i'm all in favor of getting odom in any trade that doesn't involve our big three.

I would trade Ming + Cato for Kandi and the 12th pick and use it on Tskitishvili.
I don't see the Clippers trading Cato and the 15 for Odom though,I think they are more likely to trade him for Andre Miller and use the the 12th pick to get either Stoudamire to backup Brand or they could even end up getting Marcus to back up Ming.
Cato's inconsistency makes it difficult to trade him.
Odom is also inconsistent but is far more talented than Cato.

That Georgian guy won't be there at #12, first of all.

    I think it's very balanced.

Ming and Williams are the best players in the draft. Ming alongside Brand is a brilliant frontcourt. You know how good the Clippers get?

    Ming/Cato
    Brand/draft pick
    Miles/Maggette
    Q-Rich/Maggette
    Mcinnis/Mooch

They still have the MCE to use, and Piatowski to trade. Not to mention They'll be dominant for years. We would equally as good, much stronger in the backcourt, and weaker tha them up front.

I have to say, if we sing Jerome James to the MCE, WOW.

    Kandi/James/Griff
    MoT/Griff/T-Mo
    Rice/Odom/T-Mo
    Mobley/Torres
    Francis/Dooling

That's absolutely brilliant. I really really like the trade, I think it's VERY fair.

I look at the Kandi Man, and see a player who was considered a project when he entered the league. I also see a guy who seems to want to develop his game (based on interviews), yet has been subject to the revolving door of Clipper guidance.

IMHO, Kandi might benifit from a change of scenery and a consistant coaching staff, such as CD and Rudy and Co.

In otherwords, I have to wonder if his lack of development is a function of the lame-ass Clipper management as opposed to a fuction of his desire to get better.

For all those with a sweet tooth for Kandi, remember this. Kareem Abdul Jabbar tried and failed to teach him about being an NBA center. If I recall, Lew said he was "dumb as dirt" and had no desire to play.

If we have a chance at Ming, he's a far better risk, even with the Red Chinese government on his back. I'd even rather have Chris Marcus than Kandi. We already have Cato. Why would we want Cato II? Thumbs down on acquiring Olowokandi.

    thumbs,

You've OBVIOUSLY not watched Kandi. There's no WAY anyone that saw him last seaosn can say he hasn't developed. He's done some big time development, and was excellent in the post.

Ming is not a better risk because there's no way Ming in his first year will give us what Kandi would give us next year, and we're looking to win now.

It doesn't seem to bother you that every National or Olympic coach says Steve just doesn't understand the game. WHY? Because you watch Steve and you know. Kandi is easily one of the betetr C's in the league.

I am not a CBA guru, but I'm pretty sure of the following.

Olowokandi is a Qualifying Offer Free Agent and can not be part of any draft day trades. Remember further that draft picks have no trade value unless signed and once signed can not be traded until around Dec. 15th.

A S&T can be performed after around July 18th, but Olowokandi's FA status induces some complications into trade proposals. Remember that Marc Jackson was a QO FA last summer and you will see there can be some difficulties.

This example is not realistic, but it is possible. The Bulls and/or Wiz (who are both under the cap) want a part of the Kandi action and bid the price of Kandiman to more than what a team wants to S&T Olowokandi for.

Bottomline - in order to trade for Kandi, two things must occur:

    1) the rights to the picks traded to the Clipps must be a pick or picks the Clipps want.

    2) Kandi can only be moved before Dec. 15th via S&T.

Sane- I know Odom is a team player, but why in the hell would he sit behind Rice and not start? If thats the case, lets put Steve and cat on the bench for Moochie and Oscar, Even though those guys would get more minutes, the other two should start. You're best players should start and play most of the minutes, plain and simple. No way Rice should start before Odom.

I think that in Rudy's system, Rice would be first on the depth chart as he is a veteran. IMO, Rice would start and Odom when be the first sub and probabably on the floor at crunch time...and that's when the true "starters" play anyway.

The other advantage to starting Rice is that at his age, he probably functions better going right into a game after warmups and not cooling down on the bench. Less injuries that way for older players.

I'm in favor of Kandi/Odom/Dooling, but I don't think it takes Ming.
If you get Ming, he may be a keeper. You get two months to look at him and decide, because of the rfa/draft day trade complications. So, I don't see the trade until August, which is usual, (slow June July then, boom - lotsa deals) anyway. I don't see the Bulls or Wiz in the Kandi game, but, who knows? They both have kids to play center that need a vet to school them - not a role for Kandi, who also STILL needs a vet to school him. I see the guy is just starting to play. I'd rather trade Cato for Kandi and picks for Odom. Dooling is a really nice prospect, but basically a throw-in after two zero years. btw, Magette is a straight up playa, too, but tweener. Odom is the real deal for rox with sup. height, post and pass. Still, I love Magette and Q. Those guys are studs and in a real org would get to fly. The Clips just have crap playa development, and there's that "I know I'm leaving" problem. Not that the Rox are a shining star, there, either. Question - who does do a good job with player development? Can you think of a franchise that really adds value, or is it basically just the players themselves that adjust and show the skills that got them drafted in 3 years, or don't?

Abdul-Jabbar was known as the most aloof, uncomunicative, unfriendly, mood-swinging, unplesent people to deal with when he played. Remember - just because he was a good player doesn't make him a good teacher.

Bill Russell would qualify as another great NBA with lots of integence who was a pathetic teacher/coach.

You are right about Jabbar and Russell lacking teaching ability. Okay, I'll trade Cato and Thomas for Kandi -- but no picks and no other players. He just ain't worth it, especially when we can draft an equal ability center like Marcus or even Ming for four years at a much cheaper price. Heck, I'd much rather have Brendan Haywood of the Wizards.

Please don't try to say Marcus is a starting quality player.

You have to have watched Kandi to have an opinion of him. You can't base it on one article a couple of years ago.

Another thing, why is everyone on this board so obssesed with starting?

Best players play most minutes. Starting is just a tag, a title. Let's say Rice plays 20 minutes, and Cato plays 25 no matter if they start or come off the bench. If the tag "starter" makes them more prosuctive, then why not start them?

Odom will get the same minutes, without causing any lockerroom problems.

Not everything is "it's that simple". No, there are complications ot everything. Rice and Cato need to start. Odom doesn't. That's a "simple" way of putting it.

Well, starting does mean something. I don't think a player like Odom can sit on the bench and come off as a sparkplug and be as productive.

Kandi quite possibly will be one of the top 3 true centers in the league very soon; Cato lacks the desire and KT is a decent PF, which the Clippers don't need.

Kandi broke out this season, putting up numbers and carrying the team on his back while Odom and Maggette missed time and Brand slumped late in the year. You can't say that about many players. Add in his size and lack of experience - remember that he's only played the game for 6 or so years - and you've got a player with his greatest days still to come. He's no savior, but there are many, many teams who would be willing to deal for him and who would offer more than that.

And why would you rather have Brendan Haywood? Since when do players who have one good month and then get relegated to the end of the bench become highly coveted? He had a good stretch of games and then totally disappeared; all he has is size - he's a poor man's Cato in the making, what with his lack of desire and game.

Kandi would be a great pickup for the Rockets, IMO.

    Rocketblast,

That's my point. Odom CAN come off the bench. He's not the sparkplug type, but he will play at his normal level given the same minutes, right?

Cato and Rice CAN'T be productive off the bench, simple because starting gives the a pstcholigical edge. Odom would be new on our team, and if he were playing the same minutes, with favourable matchups, I think he'd produce the same numbers.

Last year's Cato was good. In fact, I think he will improve on it. Per 48 minutes, he averaged 12pts, 13reb, and 2.6blk. Now let's say he plays 35 minutes, which means he could very well average 10, 10, and 2 for our team. That is excellent. Exactly what we need.

And Bruce Lee kicked his butt, too.
