Literally. AI will always be the man for leading that 76ers team to the Finals and even winning a game. He carried a team with an already over the hill and declining Deke (was still beastly on boards/D) as the SECOND option on the offensive end. The rest of the players that were on that roster are simply laughable. Eric Snow, Aaron Mckie, Tyrone Hill, Matt Geiger, Raja Bell (a nobody back then who was just signed out of nowhere with like 6 games left in the reg season) AI expirement hasn't worked out in Detroit as planned but he's certainly no Marbury.
I just looked at the 03-04 season when Iverson missed half the season and the Sixers had 15 less wins than before (48 to 33 wins). Then I noticed it was the first year Larry Brown was out. They had 2 coaches who both had the same winning %. And the team's winning % was about the same with and without Iverson. He's better than Marbury helping a team win at least. Motion offense can be a polarizing force, some teams take to it some teams dont. Chauncey Billups actually didnt like the version of motion offense Michael Curry brought to Detroit. So you know Iverson SURELY wont take to that offense there.
My opinions of T Mac have not changed this year, or from the year before last. However to put TMac anywhere near Iverson is a big mistake in my opinion. Your talking about a guy that took guys like Theo Ratliff to the finals vs a guy that couldnt get out of the first round.....EVER!
That Philly team wasn't so bad. It was built for Iverson...that's the kind of team you'd want if he's your franchise player. and T-Mac? Give me a BREAK! AI will play until his knees fall off. The guy is ALL heart. No one questions his love of the game, and when AI retires, it will be a sad day for the game.
i know, tmac was much better in his prime. you're talking about a guy who led jeryl sasser to game 7 against the conference finalist pistons. if people think that sixers team wasn't good, go look at the minutes played for the 02-03 magic. it's hilarious. http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/ORL/2003.html sort it by MP and the roster after tmac is amazing for a playoff team. keep in mind jeryl sasser played 1000 minutes for that team, meaning he was a major rotation player. he played a total of 30-something minutes the year before in his rookie year, and then never played again. essentially a guy who never played in the nba played 1000 minutes for them that season. and they made the playoffs.
T Mac better in his prime! Give me a break. In T Macs prime he could only watch Iverson on TV playing in the finals!
followed both through the years and do think that T-Mac in his prime is a notch better than Iverson. The philly team helped conceal the huge weakness in Iverson's defense (and Larry Brown's coaching played a great part.) After Brown left, this weakness of Iverson has been exposed every team he has been on, just like Nash today. Iverson's offense is also not as effective as T-mac in his hey day, not to mention the difference in their ability to assist and orchestra the offense.
the irony of this is marbury would be a much better fit on the pistons than iverson. marbury has a similar skillset to chauncey billups and would've been great filling his shoes.
