We've only signed White to a 10 day contract. I don't he's any kind of insurance until he's signed for the year. This is just a close look at a promising player.
I don't know about that, some players develop later in life, do you think Luther could go down to the D-league and average 26ppg? I don't. DD
Maybe Morey really thinks he can help. In Morey I trust. Maybe Barry requested him Due to the fact he was in SA at the same time as Barry. Lol at my conspiracy.
With Ron starting as the 2 gaurd now it only really leaves Battier at the 3. If anything were to happen to Artest or Battier injury wise we would need a wing. I think he is just loading up early before a tougher part of the schedule coming up and with the playoffs around the corner. I think that Morey is definately gonna make some moves.Tracys 23 million salary coming off the cap before 2010 free agency is gonna look really sexy before the trade deadline next year.
It's Joey Dorsey mania all over again. I remember when Dorsey was going to come in and makes Landry and Hayes obosolete, hold down the backup Center position and be Ben Wallace with a post game according to a few geniuses.
James White is nothing but an extra body at practice. If he is lucky, the Rockets will hold on to leads (and expand on them) in the fourth quarter and he will be able to play.
Agree I have a question for you. We got Gerald Green last year, he seemed to have the same hype as James White. What is the difference? Why did Morey take another chance..
Luther Head is a 6'2 guard without handles or the ability to create for others in the half court. He is mentally weak and very inconsistent, he has no place among top tier teams in this league. IMO he doesn't even have the potential to be an impact player, the same cannot be said for James White.
White could be insurance if Von gets injured, I don't see it as insurance if Von leaves. White is totally unproven, that's a big assumption that he could fill Von's shoes next season. That said, it seems like perfect timing: Morey loves low risk, high reward situations. And any injuries at this point in the season would be major. This move helps both situations.
Barry is in the last stages of his career,Wafer is a bench SG at best although he is needed as a starter now.White needs to prove that he can play in the league. T-Mac is out, only Ron and Battier are proven veterans. Ron could leave at the end of the year as well.Doesn't sound like stockpiling to me.
Because both of them were low risk gambles - low cost to bring in and if they don't work out no big loss, but if they do then its all gravy. Beats the hell out of paying big money to a risk like... Stromile Swift or something where it really hurts if it doesn't pan out.
haha great post. I just hope he hits a homerun with this one. I like his game and I think we need a athletic freak on this team with the uptempo offense. I also agree with Saleem. We are not stockpiling. Barry is getting old, he doesn't play every night. T-Mac well you can pretty much count him out for half of next year.
That's pretty much it. If white gets any minutes, I'm guessing it's at SF because that's where we're the thinnest. Wafer and Barry have gotten minutes at the 3 when we've gone small, but that's not their natural position. White has the height and athleticism to be a SF or SG. In that sense, he's a better fit than Head because Luther was stuck behind 3 SG's and he wasn't going to get any minutes at PG. There's room for playing time for White at SF if he deserves it. I'm guessing they're just giving him a shot, hoping he'll be a bargain backup 3 just like Wafer is a bargain backup 2.
But isn't that all we require of Wafer? Isn't he the role player who comes in and picks up the scoring and give a surge to the Rockets team? He isn't required to do much else and he seems to fit that role to a high standard!
It's definitely an interesting deal to think about beyond this season. McGrady is gone and even if he isn't, how good is the guy going to be if he plays his way into shape in the MOST IMPORTANT games of the year? (ideally, the playoffs next year as well). It depends what we want to do long-term at the SG/SF position. Looking at some statistics from the pentagon (link below): http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/HOU/2009_start.html I was wondering who played SG and who played SF for us when McGrady had even half a leg. Artest/Battier appears to have primarily been the SF and McGrady primarily the SG. So many unknowns heading into the offseason. What are we going to do until the 2010 sweepstakes? See if we can sign Wafer to a 2/3 year deal that doesn't break the bank (assuming other teams just aren't banging down the door, I don't think so though even though wafer is a nice addition)? Is Artest coming back after this year? I got majorly off-topic here, but I'll just continue. Assuming if both leave, we're ****ed. That's all there is to it. One has to come back out of the Artest/Wafer duo in order for us to remain reasonably effective for a playoff push. I'd prefer to keep both, but long term there are certainly better options than Wafer at this point. It would be sweet if we could bring him off the bench and sign a star SG in the process. Hell, it'd be nice if we just signed both a star SG and a star SF in 2010. Problem solved . I do hope Artest comes back though. It's hard to see sometimes and ultimately every fan wants their players to click no matter what. Yet, it's very clear that in the absence of McGrady, Artest can actually play like Artest and I think that'll be a factor in our favor pending on the rest of his season and if we go deeper in the playoffs.
