I don't see it posted so let me do it. Class of '99. The article also includes the popular AI interview aftershock.
7. Shawn Marion, Suns. Three-year stats: 16.3 points; 9.4 rebounds; 1.9 assists; 47.3 field-goal percentage. Pros/cons: Marion is one of the league's most underrated players, a 20-point, 10-rebound guy and the last of a dying breed -- someone who hits the mid-range jumper. But he is still best off being a second option on a mediocre team or a third option on a good team. He's not the kind of centerpiece player some others on this list are. Worth the max? No. Will he get it? No. The Suns are keeping their fingers crossed that they can unload Penny Hardaway or Tom Gugliotta, and even if they can't, they know they'll be best off to wait until they can get those deals off their books. They will risk losing Marion without any return, but they're hoping the payoff comes when they have some financial flexibility. That's not true. I would pay him very close to the max. He can play the small forward and shooting guard positions, rebound, score, and play tough defense. He's still improving too.
i agree, compared to what people are getting paid, shawn marion is probably worth the max or close to it. definitely more than lewis who might get it.
