I've seen the numbers and my first question was why the numbers bore out that way and how to fix it. You cited quite a few scenarios of how nurture is a big part of that equation which is not prevalent in the African American community. I believe that centuries of slavery and decades Jim Crow post slavery were a major contributor to the problem. I don't believe it's a race issue (look up some stats on first and second generation African Immigrants and how well they do) but a social conditioning issue.

If the U.S. society wants to take responsibilities for its action, there needs to be steps to undo centuries of brainwashing, demoralization and castigation. It would not be a cheap and easy task, programs like welfare are useless (perhaps even counter productive) and affirmative action is not enough of a solution. There needs to be an end to the cycle, but too many of those that have power do not seem to take the proper actions to help end it.

Insane Man you have an unreal bitterness even I don't possess. I'm sorry you're old and life hasn't gone the way you wanted it to. If you don't see what I;m saying about how people who were nurtured growing up and go to college become something while people from the streets will always be trash, even those with money then you missed my whole point.

Seeking the death penalty is more expensive only initially, but it's cheape in the long run

If you keep murders alive longer, their healthcare bills skyrocket. Taxes end up paying for their AIDS treatment(high rate of infection), lung cancer and emphysema treatment(high smoking%), and their mental counseling.

It's cheaper just to execute them, before those medical costs get too high.

Unbelievable. Even if it is a joke, it's still ridiculous.

And why don't we work at helping people get off the streets?

My name is such because my family is form yugoslavia and we are actually very good family friends of the zan. He is a close friend of mine. He was actually quite the player in croatia and yugoslavia, probably did more with his life than most posters on this forum ever did.

So...any "thug" with a criminal record deserves to be executed, just skip the trial and kill 'em all. How painful it is to know that someone truly feels that way. Man.

Great post, wizkid. Remnants of this country's past DO play into present problems. It's amazing that some will completely dismiss that fact.

Truly I'm more concerned right now with Obama and his ability to assemble a cabinet a little more. Did you see the news today about the ex-Dallas mayor failing to pay his taxes which included a huge deduction on Dallas Mavericks tickets? We can't have Mavs fans in office when the games are already rigged as it is.

Or why don't we actually obey the Constitution? You know..the one that set up the system that has afforded you this great life you claim to have but b**** about endlessly.

OF COURSE!!!!!!!!!!!! I should have KNOWN this was coming. Oh...that's rich. Welcome to the lowest mental common denominator. Way to opine without even bothering to look at the surface, let alone bother to scratch it.

As to the number of appeals, God forbid that we make sure that the government bears their burden of proof according to the law before we follow through with depriving a person of their life. I quote Kinky Friedman..."I'm not anti-death penalty. I am anti-the wrong guy getting killed."

Dror Goldberg when he murdered that woman running the wig shop on Weslayan. Of course, his folks had enough money to ship him to Israel.

You are not a racist. You are an idiot. There is a subtle difference. Calling an entire segment of society "trash" is simply unacceptable.

You have just utilized every questionable stereotype there is in one argument. Please take that massive salary of yours and purchase a brain.

Thank God that organizations like the Boy's Club does not share your views that people are essentially disposable.

ALL of our founding documents disagree with you completely on this point. Remember the unalienable rights...one of them is liberty. Acquire a clue.

Is there a particular reason why you are all over Battier's jock?

    Signed,

    The Duke Lacrosse Team

Great. Tell him I said that he was awful for the Rockets, and a waste of a roster spot.

Further, you appear to be a highly bigoted person. It is becoming apparent that this is because you were extremely sheltered growing up. I am very happy for you that your life has been easy. Not everybody has it that way. Keep assuming that all of these people are trash. You keep making withdrawals from the kharma bank. It will catch up with you one day. When it does, and your life isn't so easy, maybe you'll actually learn something of value about life.

the Duke Lacrosse team was innocent my friend. The murder in west U at the Wigs for Andre I think it was called was over a decade ago I believe. I think they first thought it was that railroad killer resendez ramirez or whatever his name was bc he killed that Dr. in the area too. Either way, you got me there 1 murder by a West U resident in the past quarter century.I don't even know if goldberg lived in West U, but I'll give that to you. If all the people relying on the government would just take care of business and nurture their children then society as a whole would be better. Look you can say all you want but the percentage of violent crimes committed by kids who grew up "wealthy" per se is significantly lower than the violent crimes committed by those who grew up impoverished. So again comes the question why does the government keep wasting money on what seems like a lost cause. Giving these people money does nothing, they must learn how to work hard and that education means something. If we keep giving them things, they never learn that.Sadly most just drop out and end up contributing nothing to society.

I'm also glad you pointed out a couple boys from the Duke Lacrosse team as an example that was what 4 or 5 guys from a graduating class of a couple thousand? Where are the rest of the graduates from that class now. More than likely all paying taxes and contributing to society, stupid them, they should stay home and just get free money from Barry.

There are so many things wrong with this post that I tire of pointing out to you how off base you are.

I probably would...but I need to get some sleep so I can go to my job in the morning and practice law. Oh, don't worry, I don't defend criminals. I represent banks. You know...the "good guys."

I'm philosophically against the death penalty, but I don't like the cost argument. Just cancel all the appeals and get a cheaper and cruder execution process. Anyways, I think people in red states would willingly pay extra taxes to kill their killers.
