Obtaining more info is great. Which is why torture isn't necessary. We know that we've gotten better intel using repore building, and that some of the same sources that gave us good info using that technique stopped giving us reliable information once we started waterboarding/torturing them. We absolutely should try and get as much info as possible, which is why we never need to torture.
I just posted that I've never interogated or even viewed an actual one. Now you say it yields unreliable intel mor often than not. How bout the cases when the info is reliable? They should be looking into all diff angles.
I've never heard of this "repore" technique. Perhaps we can use it to supplement the rapport building?
That wold be the one. I wanted to make it seem more French? Either that or I'm just a moron. But we all knew that.
Is there really such a thing as torturing a terrorist? I mean for god sakes the safety of everyone is at risk, waterboard them by all means, just get the vital information we need. I love how you guys act like terrorists have rights. They should string them up right there when they get all the info necessary.
We act like it, because we believe the words of the Declaration of Independence, and U.S. Constitution. Beyond that, waterboarding is shown to not be effective at getting the information. Rapport building has been shown to be more effective. Why do something we know doesn't work? Why do something we know has lead to attacks on American troops? My god some of you act like using the best method of gathering intel isn't good enough, and we should use a method that is less effective when gathering info from terrorists.
yes, because if they're arab and a prisoner, they must be terrorists. if we try real hard...really really hard...maybe we can become what we hate!! AWESOME!!!!! HIGH FIVE!!!!!! GO USA!!!!!!
What if they are not terrorists? I know the US have never been wrong and never falsely arrested anyone, but what if it happened? What % should we say is acceptable? 10% 20%? 30%? Or is doesn't matter as long as we know we are the good guys? I know there are case where I might support torture but this just doesn't sound like a very good way about getting information. Unless we just say we are ok with torture up front, then we will be just like many other countries in the world and I am fine with that as well.
Ends do not justify means. If we are to see ourselves as a nation of character, principles and quality, and wish the world to agree in any way, we have to remember that how we act matters. The Geneva Convention Treaties were set in place and agreed upon by the international community for a reason. If we don't abide by it, we can't expect anyone else to (hence point of putting our own troops in greater peril by not following it's ideals), and part of the reputation and deserved respect that our forefathers fought and died to sew into the fabric of Old Glory will be unraveled. Surely that matters more than "Gaining more information." Sadly, the very people who committed this act in our country's name are the people who have stripped freedom and privacy from all of us in the name of "gaining a little more information" and using fear as the tool to make us allow them to do so. 'They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.' -Benjamin Franklin
hey, i hope this isn't offensive...but i watched Harold & Kumar II and you should really watch your back. as someone of Indian descent, you might be targetted by our govt. when they come after the Irish it's on...of course we'll all be drunk. ARE YOU COMING DOWN FOR MARCH MADNESS!!!!!????
The waterboarding, whether or not it's torture, of KSM saved lives. and, btw, there's no evidence that any of the destroyed tapes depict torture, or even warterboarding.
You guys act like there will never be casualties of war in the from of innocent people. Remember those who died on September 11, they were innocent people too. So if we round up and torture 100 terrorists and 1 or 2 or 5 are innocent I'm fine with it. Those 5 will go back and tell their friends just what we did and if they ever think of messing with us their fate will be the same. It's schoolyard tactics, but how many people stood up to the bully when he beat some kid up? You cannot fight a dirty war like we are doing right now against terrorists who hide in schools and neighborhoods without a few innocent bystanders being victims. It's sad but true. I'm sure more than a few innocent people were tortured but on the flipside can you imagine how many people didn't commit crimes they would have because they saw what happened to a guy who was tortured by us. It goes both ways.
thank god our "torturing" techniques have never been used by terrorist organizations to recruit young muslims to join their anti-american jihadist movements and definitely thank god that those jihadists have never killed anyone!
