http://msn.espn.go.com/ncb/news/2002/0509/1380677.html The recent tradition of Duke players leaving early for the NBA is most likely continuing. Duke junior forward Mike Dunleavy Jr. will declare for the 2002 NBA Draft, ESPN has learned. Dunleavy will not hire an agent, however, leaving open the possibility that he could return for his senior season. Dunleavy will make the announcement at a Saturday news conference. According to Andy Katz, word out of Duke for some time has been that Dunleavy would not declare for the draft. However, NBA scouts have expected he will declare and Katz says Dunleavy should be a top 10 pick. Dunleavy's father has been making inquiries with NBA teams about his son's prospects for the upcoming draft. If it is determined that he would be a high lottery pick the younger Dunleavy would likely come out. If it is determined he would be selected at the middle to low end of the lottery, then Dunleavy would probably withdraw and return to Duke. Man, more and more solid lotto picks keep coming out, while I dont understand why Dunleavy is expected to go in the lotto, it will give another interesting Sf for everyone to look at.
oops...edit sorry I tried to get NJ to eat his words, and he already did in the original post. my apologies NJ....well done.
This is perfect for the Rockets. I am 100% positive that the rockets are going to draft Mike Dunleavy Jr. if he is available. He is the exact type of player the rockets need and he fits rudy's system. Most of all he is a TEAM player that just wants to win. Scoring is not a higher priority to him than winning is and that is a change that could have a trickle effect on all of the rockets players. Mike Dunleavy Jr. starting at small forwand for the Rockets has a nice ring to it.
I really liked Dunleavy until I saw Caron Butler play if the rockets have decided they need a role player, trade for Artest and get a Wilcox, Stoudemire or someone with some upside
If Dunleavy comes out the draft might become a little deeper but I would be worried if the Rockets decided to pick him.He is too skinny and is not quick enough to guard rival 3's.I think the Rockets should pass him up but I fear that Rudy will pick him instead of Caron Butler, who as Ipbman mentioned is a better player.
Wow, this is good news for us, whether we pick him or not. Right now, the top tier looks to be 17 players (in no particular order): Ming, Williams, Wagner, Woods, Gooden, Wilcox, Borchardt, Marcus, Rush, Butler, Haislip, Ely, Dunleavy, Jeffries, Tskitishvili(sp?), Hilario, and Stoudemire. I've heard a couple other foreigners could fly up the board (Nachbar/Scola), but we'll wait and see on that. What's even better-only 3 of those 17 are guards (Wagner, Williams, Rush). There is a virtually guarantee of a high talent front court player being available at 15. Also, to our benefit, this seems to be an exceptional summer for the buyers in the SF market. In the draft, LOADS of options-Woods, Butler, Dunleavy, maybe Tskitishvili and Jeffries as lotto type selections, and then a TON of mid-late first rounders like Yarbrough, Prince, Nachbar, etc. Via trade-Ron Artest, Lamar Odom, and Wally Scuzzlestrangelastname, with potentially others like Mike Miller. And Rashard Lewis, Donyell Marshall, and Lee Nailon are available through free agency.
What a coincidence. I declared for the draft today too. I also chose not to hire an agent at this time. os
how do you declare for the draft? Lets say I'm a 2.1 ppg high school bench warmer, can I call david stern up and say "put me on the board, baby!!" ? `
