Sources are reporting that Dunleavy will declare for the NBA draft, but not sign an agent. http://www.broadcastmonsters.com/elitehoops.asp "05/09/02-Several sources have told us to expect Mike Dunleavy to enter his name into the NBA draft by the deadline. Despite many denials in the last few weeks it appears that Mike Dunleavy Sr. feels the time is right now for his son to enter the draft. Dunleavy Sr is a former NBA coach with many contacts within the NBA. We are told that Mike Dunleavy Jr. will not hire an agent and will evaluate his position in the draft over the next few weeks.. If his projected draft position isn't high enough he could then decide to return to Duke for his Senior season" I think there are better players to pick with our first pick, but you certainly could do a lot worse than him. He'd be the safest bet in the draft this year, but one whose ceiling isn't as high as others.
No way would I use our first pick on him if Butler, Gooden or Wilcox is on the board. I would be OK with using the 14/15 pick on him.
Mike Dunleavy will not drop past #5 in the draft. Maybe he'll slide as far as #7. Maybe. But I wouldn't be surprised to see him go #3.
MD going #3 would be great with me, unless we have the #3 pick. I wouldn't be surprised if once scouts look at him versus the comp he slips into late lotto (if he smells this you figure he will go back to school though).
