He's a free agent in the offseason. I would assume this was discussed several weeks ago. It's actually a nice gesture for the Rockets to "keep him" until now -- let him rehabilitate with NBA trainers and equipment. Hell, from the sound of it, they waited until this Chicago game to essentially give him a free flight home to boot.
What if he goes to Utah, reunits with his teamate Williams, and kicks us out at game 7 with a 3 at last shot ? Anyway, I like the orgnization decision, it make other players know Houston take care of their players, even he is useless.
I'm surprised so many people really want Horry or Cassel. No doubt they could bring some mentoring to younger players, but do you actually expect them to contribute? Marbury had been available for months but nobody wanted him. Maybe the numbers didn't work, I don't know, but I'm just not excited by Horry or Cassel.
They denied Jason Williams's reinstatement. So they probably don't see him as a threat in the playoffs. I 'd still hope he hooks up with a loterry team just to be sure. I would guess there's another motive behind this besides doing Head a solid. Either they want a vet PG as insurance or Landry has a serious ankle injury. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3940977
1. Luther did not have a role, and we were going to let him walk as a free agent anyway. 2. Give Luther an opportunity to join a playoff team. 3. Clear roster space to sign a veteran free agent.
He's going to get picked up by another team before the end of the next week. Why feel bad for him? Shoot, he was getting paid to chill on the bench. I'm sure he wants to play.
He will never be complete player but he can still put up points when he gets consistent playing time. I expect he will end up on poor or average team with a thin back court. I still believe on the right team he can average 13-14ppg a game. He will never do that on a good team but for a guy like Head it is more about keeping a job than chasing a Championship.

James White?! Fuggin awesome! We desperately need another athlete. We have none outside of Wafer/Landry. This is not good news. It's GREAT NEWS!
Love James White! But lets get realistic here....10 day contract....Means more than likely he will be on the bench for 10 days and released. Not to mention we have how many forwards on the bench now??
This is dumb. Why would the release him when he was an expiring contract. And there basically releasing him for James White??? Another Gerald Green basically but without a jumpshot. Horrible decision by management.
