Go to your archive of games, I've done it. Check it for yourself. I am definitely not afraid to have anyone else go through the same process and do the same thing that I did and see it for themselves, because I have done it myself just to see that I wasn't imagining the whole thing, or crazy or wrong, and I know that it definitely is true that they do this to him. If you do, just make sure that you go through more than 1 game, because I am not sure that it happens in every game, and also it needs to happen more than once to establish a consistent pattern. And, unfortunately, it looks like several posters have noticed that this happens to Yao on his rebounding stat also, something that I also suspected might be true as well.
he runs slower and jumps lower than most of nba players . the reason that his Career average of 1.9 blks in 32.5 minutes is just because he is the tallest player in nba. it is not fair for him to block more .
Wha? Huh? I thought this was a competitive game of basketball they were playing here? Being born tall is just God's gift to him, as Jeff Van Gundy says, it is not a curse, but a blessing, you are going to penalize him for it by cheating him of his stats? Huh? And if you do that and justify it, who else are you going to do it to? Then, how can we find out which NBA players are really good or not? It ruins the whole integrity of the game of the scorekeepers cheat him of stats because then the whole game is cheating What you are saying does not make sense to me. If it is true, how can you justify such a thing?
I just thought of something, this kind of stuff lowers the number of his double-doubles and everything, and prevents him from being 20+/10+ with his limited minutes.
Man,props to your findings,it would be more persuasive if you are able to post your tracking in a form of excel or sth to bolster your assertion As long as Yao can take rox to win more games, ultimately champion, I don't think Yao himself or anybody else even care about stats
Well, since someone gets to mention "conspiracy theories", I'll mention my "not-so-much-a-conspiracy" theory. We all know that Yao is often officiated very poorly. Last night when I saw Violet Palmer on the court I nearly started throwing things at the screen; but I was at Buffalo Wild Wing's and didn't want to get thrown out or arrested. She wasn't too bad tonight anyway. If Yao were given anywhere near the respect he deserves---let alone LeBron respect, Kobe respect, KG respect---he'd be among the league's top 5 in scoring, right near the very top. If some of those blatant fouls against Yao were called, he'd spend a lot of time on the line, a la Dwayne Wade. And Yao hits those free throws. I say "conspiracy theory" in quotes because I won't say it's official policy but it's almost as if the league or the refs or whomever don't want a foreign player to stand near the winner's circle. Keep him just to the side. Don't allow a non-American to even THINK about grabbing the scoring title.
Thanks. I actually noticed this a while ago, I just didn't have time to post it until someone brought up Yao's shotblocking skills. I think that I will do what JimRaynor55 says, and go over several games, and then post my results on this forum in this thread. I don't know how to use excel of sth, but I can do it kind of by hand on several Rockets games, on at least 7 and more. I still have several Rockets games on my computer from earlier this year that are on my hard drive that I have yet to watch yet. I can do it on those games while I watch the itself. It's pretty easy anyway. I can start tonight. I will post up the results up here on this forum in this thread. Stay tuned.
I don't worry about Yao's block shot, as long as he can impact the shot and let Rocket get the def rebound.
The focus shouldn't be on his shot blocking, he's average at best but he changes so many shots under the basket. Yesterday, him and Ron kept Lebron from even thinking about driving the lane. What Yao needs to work on are his TOs, 19 TOs in the last 4 games are way too much.
Yao should be credited with many invisible or indirect shot blocks. As he is in the paint, many guys will intentionally avoid shooting in that area, and once they make their attempts farther from the rim, the chances of scoring decrease accordingly.
dont look too into this. yao has always been able to affect lebron's shot when he drives because he winds up so much. he's average against everyone else.
BUT HERE IS SOMETHING ELSE TO CHECK!! Because so many of Yao's to's are actually bad fouls against him, hitting his arms, wrists, hands, etc, that would be called against Yao as a fould if he did the same thing to his opponent! Yao gets screwed by the refs all the way around. He probably loses 3-4 points to no calls, has 1-2 more to's that should be fouls against the other team, more rb's and more blocks. Les send the check to the Ref's retirement fund now - get er done!
Great point! I was listening to our local 610 radio on "Fan feedbacks" after the Portland game, a caller with a Brittish, Australian or New Zealand accent called in and voiced his opinions on the treatments of Yao by the NBA. This gentlemen was so eloquent in making his points ,unlike the regular callers that you can barely make out what they're saying sometimes. He basically broke it down to the host that anyone with an ounce of intelligent can see that Yao is being treated differently by the NBA for who he is. He went on to make a great case for Yao ,but sadly even after the local host listened to this man, the host was like: whatever, what can we do about it? I really love the Rockets, been a fan going back to the 70s, when Dream & companies won us those 2 rings, I was on Richmond, Westpark celebrating those championships, I want to taste that experience again, but unless we as Rocket nation do something to right this wrong, I'm afraid it's not gonna happened again for us!
This is a very good discussion. Props to Rocketsfan41 for your hard work. I can't say that I noticed a "conspiracy theory" over Yao's stats-keeping yet (I am not an attention-detailed person), but I certainly noticed Yao's blocks were undercounted yesterday. Besides his first block on LBJ that wasn't counted, I also remember at least another clean block by Yao in the first half. Like everyone else, I was perplexed to find the box score showing Yao with only one block shot all night. While stats may not be so important for winning, a player does need impressive stats to improve his chances of being voted into HOF.
