I dusted off my bike from college and am getting it back in shape. Does Houston have a helmet law? I see basically everyone wearing them. I only wore mine when I did hardcore trails, but don't want a ticket.

Anyone know of a good place to ride around. I mean a park or something, I know of plenty of sidewalks. Memorial park is pretty good.

I raced bmx as a kid. And have been mountain biking for about 18 years. I never broke a bone while racing. And I've never broken a bone while mountain biking (knocking on wood right now). But, I've broken several bones bicycling on the street. Wearing a helmet is a good idea. I haven't lived in Houston for a long time, but the trails in Memorial park are fun. Also a pretty fun trail in Warda. And there are some good trails in Austin (Walnut Creek and Muleshoe bend). Also, Rocky Hills ranch in Smithville is great after you get in riding shape.

This is also a good source for trail reviews http://trails.mtbr.com/

I've also smacked my helmet on more trees than I can count mountain biking. It's save my ass a lot. Welcome back to biking.

Yeah I rode all the time at Jack Brooks Park in high school and memorial park.

I am not really looking to get back into that stuff right now. I think if I did it would be on a much better bike than I have now for sure.

tc jester, braeswood, and white oak bayou have some trails. terry hershey park is also a pretty good work out (beltway 8 to fry road). theres a map of all the bike trails in houston. just google it.

not too sure about a helmet law but if you plan on riding on the streets at all id up your lid on. houston drivers have a habit of not seeing bikers on the road.
