Take at a look at my web page http://rocketdavo.tripod.com for a summary of the facts surrounding Hakeem's retirement and salary. ALL of the discussion about whether he should retire and free up some cap room is contingent on whether there was an option clause built into the contract when it was signed 4 or 5 years ago. Even if there is such a clause(The fact there are rumours in the media surrounding a buy-out makes me think that there is), its just not worth it unless we do some other serious maneuvering to unload salary(See item 7b on the web page). ------------------ http://rocketdavo.tripod.com
LaunchPad, I've got a feeling we'll be bumping heads for a while to come, but it's all in fun, so hey...Anyway, We would ship away salary to make room for Duncan in the Hakeem paycut situation (Williams would work). Anyway, it's all irrelevant; neither you or I will be pulling the strings. But I still say Hakeem sucks right now, and will suck as bad or worse next season. If he stays, I think he should do something to help the team...All I'm trying to do is toss out ways he can do so. It's been cool arguing with you. Hope to see you on the BBS in a few weeks when I'm done with finals.
Here we go with the Hakeem salary issue. Listen, let him get the well deserved farewell around the NBA and give him a chance to go out on a strong note. Hakeem's philosophy on basketball is the center position should be a integral part of the team's attack. Can someone name a championsip team besides Detroit or Chicago that did not have an above average center? How did Kareem keep up with Magic, Worthy, Scott and the Showtime players? What we should be discussing is the salary cap ramifications of the Cato and Maloney contracts!!! ------------------ Respect Hakeem's legacy. A championship in the hand is worth two in the bush!!
