I think he respects Yao as a person, but probably considers him a second-rate star in the NBA. He did say a year ago when Yao went out with injury that the Rockets had no shot at being successful without him. I'm not sure if that was more a dig at the Rockets, or a compliment for Yao.
Barkley is hilarious. You can't take the man seriously. He isn't an analyst and he hates the Rockets. Once you get past that realization, listening to him is comedic gold.
He won't commend Yao as the image of he kissing a donkey's ass due to Yao is still coming out of his dream.
He has indeed, once in 2006 or 2007 when commenting on Yao, he said, "I like Yao, I think he is a good player, but.....(some BS i cannot recall)"
I compare Barkley with the Monsters on 790 and Rich Lord on 610; I don't listen to them for actual legit sports talk, I like to to listen on just how inept and stupid they are for my own amusement.
We all saw how that worked out. Of course no 2nd round but still over achieved. Screw Charles, he obviously hates the Rockets. Every chance he gets he doubts or insults the team and when we do something good he just ignores it.
