he actually played like his second game in and did alright, he's not terrible, just has very specific and limited skills, he's good at what he does, unfortunately that's not much. To some fo y'all that may mean he's terrible, but to the team it means he can come in when needed for a specific situation and deliver. Even wafer doesn't play much, deke doesn't play at all most of time, of course they are better than him, but the point is you can't just look at PT.
Well, Cook team up with Deke to form the best cheerleading big man squad in the league...isn't that enough for ya?
every nba-er can shine some if given a chance, or at least get stats. cook is nothing special, but imo all things considered, he > novak, though his shots may not as pure as novak's. give the guy a break. he's a rocket now. in his limited 2 minutes of playing, he's already scored a layup.
Gotta laugh there... Not going to go back and check what specific games I was referring to. Just remember the perception that I had and the HOPE I have the current ROX team. Any good fortune that coul;d fall in our laps... I would welcome. Sure you all agree.
of course any good fortune I would welcome...Lowry being traded here, Rafer Alston leaving, McGrady getting his surgery...all good fortunes for the rockets this season Brian Cook coming to the Rockets?? That is not good fortune at all. I dont hate the guy, I enjoy watching him cheer from the sidelines, I just do not want him on the court in a situation where his play could actually affect the outcome the game
He's going to play and tonight would be a good time. Wallace is the weakside shot blocker and if cook is on the floor with yao, wallace has a longer distance to travel to block a shot. Scola is a good mid range shooter and wallace can't totally sag like when chuck is playing, but with cook, he has a long way to double.
hardly so, they will just move Wallace to guard someone else and leave daniel gibson to guard Cook which is a huge mismatch defensively in Gibson's favor. Listen I've watch almost every game Brian Cook has played as a Laker for the sole purpose of seeing what stupid thing he would do next to make me laugh and hurt the Lakers chances at winning the game. You do not want him out there playing any meaningful minutes. Cook will find a way to make Ben Wallace look like Bernard King on the offensive end.
I've watched a lot of games when he was in La also. Tell me who was guarding him when he dropped 35 on the rockets? Gibson can't hold cook on the blks and I'm not so sure scola or landry can either. He'll get a matchup the coach feels good about and he'll do what he do. The guy can flat out shoot, he has long arms and that's a situational guy to me. When they play a team like Utah and they're collapsing on Yao with the off pf, he's a floor stretcher. I'm not going to say he's the best or a great player, I'm just saying he has a skill no one at his position has. All of our 4's are terrible defenders except chuck so its not like he's downgrading that spot defensively anyway.
Cook may have some special role for this team. Yes, Novack wasn't the player we thought he was, but when we needed a late 3, I wanted him on the floor. Cook may be the answer for someone like Okur. Deke has a role too, even it's just providing Yao with some center type defense during practice.
must have been a preseason game because I know Brian Cook's career high of 28 was against the Mavericks, a point that I always rub into my old roommates face (he is a mavs fan) all the time. there was one game in the dismal 05-06 season that Cook did score like 23-24 points on the Rockets when we fielded an ALL-NBA forward tandem of juwan howard, ryan bowen, lonny baxter and stromile swift. you say that he is a big guy and can take gibson, or even landry/scola in the post. yeah he is a big guy but have you ever seen him EVER play in the post? just because you are a big guy doesnt mean you automatically have a post game. Chuck Hayes has better moves on the low block than Cook and I am not exaggerating for effect here. And its a significant downgrade from Scola and Landry. Cook cannot rebound, always tries to take a charge even when he is out of position, cannot play help defense as well. Offensively he is going to be parked outside of the 3pt line 80% of the time, in an offense that is based off of movement that is just terrible. He isnt a "run and screens, catch and shoot" shooter like Peja was he is just a spot up shooter. His efficiency goes way down when he tries to put the ball on the floor and make a play. Like i said I have nothing against the guy personally, he has more skill than I do..thats why he is in the NBA but I have seen more than enough of him play that he more often than not he hurts the team he is playing for when he is on the court. He is could be a good teammate he is a good cheerleader but I would like for him to stay that way. Hopefully he doesnt go "Columbine" on the other guys during practice. (it was a nickname given to him by his laker teammates...go ahead look it up I remember reading it in the paper)
Yes, he has a 3.5 mill expiring contract next year. Morey has said he wants to add another substantial player for next year, Cook's contract can be used together with someone else's contract to get that player. Morey is thinking 2 steps ahead when making moves.
If the Rockets re-sign Artest this summer, Morey will be trying like mad to dump Cook's $3.5M contract on some team under the cap or with a trade exception. The Rockets would otherwise be significantly over the luxury tax threshold.
I doubt he is that bad but he just doesn't have well rounded enough skills or strengths to get more playing time then those on our current roster.
YoYo, I've watched La a lot cause I'm a night owl and that was 05 when he had 27 and 28 vs the mavs and rox in consecutive games. I'm not saying he's great, I'm just saying he has a situational role player. Those pf's you're talking about are no worse defensively than the ones we have now. Chuck, howard, swift vs chuck, scola, and landry. Is there a difference?
