Ok, apparently this year the league was going to punish flopping And in anticipation of the game against the cavs, i started this thread due to Andy Varejao, that guy is the best flopper in the league today. Last game Yao played against the Blazers, Pryzbilla was flopping like a fish, and it made me sick, this game is being decided by flopping way too much and I'm surprised that the NBA has done nothing to stop this.
Stern was just trying to please the fans. With all the rule changes, flopping was one thing he had to address, and address he did. Sadly, addressing the situation is only half of it. Enforcing is a whole different story.
I just think some of these players have gotten so good at it that its difficult for the refs to call things properly. We did get that call the other night.
I thought that they were going to fine the players for flopping once they reviewed the game. So even if the ref did miss the call, the flopper would still at the least be fined for it.
Give defenders back the ability to play defense, flopping only became relevant when you took away perimeter players ability to stay in front of their man and gave slashers free reign to charge into the lane. It is truly one of the most damaging things that has happened to the game in the last 20 years. Also, zone defense needs to go away too. The rules of late 80s early 90s were perfect and Stern had to go and screw them up. Stern wanted more scoring but bastardized defense in the process and created a nearly impossible situation for his referees in the process. The offense already has the advantage in an iso situation because they creating the action and defense is reactionary. When you allow the offender to get into the defender's body, as is the situation where your only option is to slide your feet and keep your body in front of the man with the ball, there is going to be contact, more contact than there was with a hand check; when this happens the world's best player are going to exploit that contact to their advantage by making it looks like there was more contact than there actually was. Stern created the situation, it could easily be eliminated by bringing back the hand check.
Hand check makes defender's jobs much easier. I play basketball, and I often find myself being hand checked. When you hand check someone, even your fingers are enough to pull the player back, or at least determine where your attacker is going. I think there should be a different rule. Allow the hand to be on the player's shoulders, but not anywhere below the shoulders.
I agree with fining the player one the plays are being reviewed. The fines should double with every offense, with the team being fined too.
Best flopper my @ss he sucks at it and still gets calls like Kirilenko. All you have to do is flap your arms, whip your head back and you get the call, its just the other real NBA players find it g@y to play like that.
I didn't watch this game, so I can't say for sure that Scola didn't flop. But I can say that there is a HUGE difference between taking a charge and flopping, and in my experience Scola does not flop, but he is quite good at taking charges.

what that punk pyrzbilla did was insane.. i have never seen such blantant flopping.. he did it twice on one play. flopped didnt get hte call got back up and flopped again all within 5 seconds.. anyways with that said.. scola definitely flopped big time on one play..and a good flop it was.. i think aldridge just dipped his shoulder a bit and Scola went flying. . i hate flopping but if they do it i ididnt mind that scola got the call.. on another play he did get in position but definitely flopped again to draw the charge..
Offensive flopping is just as bad (if not worse) than defensive flopping. Shane Battier mentioned that if you get rid of one, you HAVE to get rid of the other. I agree wholeheartedly -- A player should be penalized for initiating (Reggie Miller's kicking) or faking contact with a defender in order to draw a foul. The way you penalize flopping is simple. You do not address it during a game. After the game is over, have officials go over footage of every foul from ever game. They already do this to judge game referees. When the review team determines a player has flopped, it should be treated as if it was an unsportsmanlike technical foul -- $500 fine and suspension after 15 (7 in the playoffs).
You mean Paul Pierce with his head snapping back every time he drives into the lane. I hate that crap and he gets the call. Even worse, he acts like deserves it.
