The problem with this show is that its moving too slowly again. I'm sure they're gonna devote an entire episode explaining why Kate came back, then another one for why Sayid came back, then another one for why Hurley came back, and then another one for what happened to Ben. i'm mean really... they're on the island already... i don't really care why.. let's just move the story along.

When Locke told Ben that Jin was alive, that changed something for Ben. That played a role, but the Eloise Hawking name seemed to be the final nail in the coffin.

I thought it interesting that Locke always seems to end up believing whoever he is talking to. I mean, just how many times can Ben play him? And I don't think we have seen the last of that.

I enjoyed the episode more than last weeks - we got nice answers, nice cameos, and plenty of "Damn You BENRY!" moments. Confirmation that the plane and team Jack ended up in different time points. It's interesting that there are wounded (minus Benry), I don't recall that happening originally.

I think Frank landed the plane on the partially completed runway on the Hydra island.

Becomes more apparent that Juliette will regret shooting whomever she shot in the outriggers.

"There's a war coming".....Walt's dream......sounds like The Stand is going to take place either this season finale or next season.

I agree that Ben (and Widmore?) only cared about Locke as a mechanism to Trojan Horse himself onto the Island. Once Locke let slip about Hawking and Jin, Ben was armed with the tools to move forward without the guy that displaced him as leader.

For those pushing for a faster pace....we're staring down only 27 episodes or so left in the series.

learning why they come back could help explain the whole thing. i really enjoy these episodes. i was hoping last night that they were going to do this for the rest of the characters. of course, i think john's more important to the story than the rest, so maybe their stories could be intertwined with what's going on with them back on the island.

I'm starting to sound like a troll...but I used to love this show...I feel asleep last night in the middle of it. That's the second time that's happened this season.

I think this show did a lot better when it left things unanswered. People get pissed off at that, but the mystery of it is more intriguing to me. We're getting answers now...I'm just not all that interested in the answers they're giving. Maybe it's because...from my view (and yes, it's just my opinion! :) ) once they went to the whole constant jump around with time travel, then the show changed...it's all over the place...and it FEELS incoherent to me.

that's what happened to me and Heroes. I quit watching and don't miss it at all. And I don't have to feel guilty whining about the show every week in the thread.

As far as time travel, I think (actually, sure) it was in the cards from the start. A lot of the first season looks entirely differently if you review it now (and slightly stood out originally). Adam and Eve in the caves, Christian talking to Sarah behind Jack's back, Sayid and Hurley picking up a decades old broadcast on the radio, etc...I think we're going to find that they put things in motion to bring themselves to the island. I find it very cool, and they're tackling time travel a lot better than most fiction has.

And there's still buckets of mystery left. They're revealing things at a fair pace - I'd be ticked off if they just kept us running in circles until the final 3 episodes.

We don't know that...the guy talking to John in the end said they saw Hurley and bunch of other passengers flash off. It could be possible that Sun flashed off into an area away from the crash, but close enough that she came back (Just like Jack in the series opener) and then with Frank went off to look for the others.

Which leads into another theory...Do you think the oceanic 6 flashed "out" of the plane (4 for sure) because they have been to the island before. So that would mean that flight 815, the first crash, wasn't Jack's first time in the island?!?! Do I make sense anymore??

Max - you've got nothing to apologize for to anyone - I think we all do it. I quit Heroes because I felt bad - not because it was the "right" thing to do. I didn't quit complaining about McGrady because I wasn't turning the Rockets off no matter what. Too invested.

I also dig the spouse thing from the other side - my wife likes the show a bit, but nowhere to the same degree. She's only watching because of me.

The original 815 crash - I've always felt there was more to it than revealed. Unless it's weak TV writing, no way do virtually all passengers on board a flight that crashed (let alone, ripped in half in mid air) survive unscathed (I did notice Locke's surprise that there were wounded last night). And Jack ends up in the middle of the jungle without so much as a sore back? I don't get it, but there had to be something.

I agree that we don't know where Sun and Sayid are until the show reveals it. They could be thousands of years in the past with the inhabitants that built the 4-toed statue for all we know.

i guess one thing i like about the show last night is the fact that the main characters are responsible for everyone else from that plane being on the island now. if i found out the truth about everything i would be pretty pissed off ;)

That was kind of my point. The show is hinting that Frank went off with Sun but it doesn't make sense that some of the Losties would flash off the plane while others wouldn't. So maybe it's not Sun that Lapidus went off with.

Somebody mentioned that it looks like the O5 and the 316 survivors are now in different time periods and I agree. Jack, Kate, and Hurley are definitely in the 70's. Jin's Dharma uni and the VW bus he was driving was too new for it to be otherwise. Plus we already knew Daniel was working for the Dharma Initiative.

The 316 survivors, except those who flashed off the plane, are in present time. Sawyer and Juliet found the outrigger boats with Ajira water bottles at their camp. The could tell they had flashed to the "future" (at least some point after 2003) because the camp existed (meaning it wasn't the past) and there was the presense of this new stuff.

So it looks like we're still going to have stories going on in these dual time periods.

i assume lupidas left with the flight attendant but did he leave for the other island in the boat?

if then where did those boats come from?

i guess it was lupidas' boat that they found on the shore with the ajira airlines bottle in it

A lot of people died in the initial crash. They burned the fuselage when the decomposing bodies started attracting boars. The pilot (Matt Parkman :p ) was injured and knocked unconscious for almost a day before Jack, Kate, and Charlie arrived. The marshal who was escorting Kate was mortally wounded but he lived for a few days.

Have we seen Sun? I was wondering if it was Sun he left with.

Yes, that seems correct. The 815 crash didn't seem to be Jack's first visit to the island. He ended up in the jungle away from everyone else because he probably flashed there for some unknown reason.

As for the last episode, I thought it was the weakest of the season. I've enjoyed the show for the most part through the first 4 seasons because mostly everything they've shown, they've related to science somehow. Now you start adding weird stuff like "John must be wearing Jack's dad's shoe in order to get back to the island," and all that stuff makes it hard to take the show seriously without knowing why.

You can go back to the old seasons and look at the weird things like the smoke monster, pushing the button, seeing things that shouldn't be there, and the like. But there was stuff explaining (vaguely) why those things existed. The smoke monster is some deranged advanced security system. The button needed to be pressed so the world wouldn't end (perhaps it would detonate the atom bomb and release the island's "limitless" energy). People saw things that shouldn't be there maybe because of the time shift present on the island at all times. All those mysteries were intriguing and cool. Now you have "John Locke must wear Jack's dad's shoe to get to the island." Stuff like that just seems goofy to me.

Regardless, I'll be sticking with the show because I'm this far in and not fixing to quit now.

On a side note, it was interesting to see why the polar bears were on the island. Clearly they were kept in cages and trained to push buttons (season 3 with Sawyer and Kate), and were used to move the wheel that shifts the island (the snowy setting when Ben moved the wheel). Then they end up in Tunisia in the desert (where Charlotte finds polar bear fossils). Don't know why, but pretty cool none the less.

He had to wear something of Christian's because he was acting as his proxy, best trying to replicate the people and events that led them to the island in the first place. That as good of an explanation as anything they've had regarding the smoke monster.

When did they talk about this? Not doubting you, just wondering if I missed something completley in last night's show.

This show is fantastic by the way.
