Let's say we don't trade and draft in the 5 and 15 slots and we select Caron Butler and the center from Stanford (Bouchardt, I think). Where does this put us for next year assuming the follow squad.

C: Cato, Eddie Griffin/Bouchardt #15 draft pick(Rudy's thinking like Dallas)
    PF: MoTaylor/Kenny
    SF: Rice/Butler #5 Draft pick
SG: Cat/Torres (his 3's look good)
    PG: Steve/Norris

Toss up between TMorris and Tierre Brown for the 12th spot.

My prediction, less than 45 wins, which means NO playoffs or a quick 1st round exit. Trade for Lamar Odom or Rashard Griffin, definitely playoffs and maybe a 1st round upset if we're in the 5th or 6th slot.

If we could get Butler and Borchardt, that would be an awesome draft.

It would fill the need for a sf and backup c big time.

    I would say playoffs.

if we had steve healthy, and mo & rice for the year we couldve been the #7th seed.

if we use both picks on addresing our needs we will get 6th or 5th. we will have a better chance of winning in the playoffs if we traded those picks for young vets.

Borchadt has very limited skills. We're better off dealing the pick if he is who we can get. He has no potential, so a Greg Ostertag is about all you get from that guy. He doesn't seem like a guy who wants to bruise in the paint. We should take a big man with potential (Amare, Tskitishvili or Nene) or we should deal the #15 to move up in the draft to get one of those guys. I'm just not sold on Borchadt, he seems to have just taken advantage of playing against smaller opponenets in the NCAA.

Hell, if we want Borchadt then why not just sign LaFrentz? Raef is basically everything that Borchadt could be under the best conditions.

OK, yeah let's just go sign Raef

I would be thrilled with Butler and Bordchardt out of the draft. I really like Butler, and Bordchardt though no superstar material has a lot of skills (there is zero resemblance to Ostertag). However Borchardt will not be available at #15 but shouldn't be taken at #5 either with the current talent in the draft. The only possibly way to get Bordchart and Butler would be to trade #15 and something (KT?) to move up 5 or so slots with our second pick 1st round, and that still might not be enough.

I don't see how adding one guy coming off a serious injury, another aging player and 2 rookies puts us ahead of the clipps, seattle, or even utah. Even though we hope Eddie will improve, but the clipps bringing back Odom, and Seattle bringing back Lewis along with Andrei inproving in Utah basically puts us in the same 40-44 wins as last yr maybe. we as fans want not only progress for our players, but other teams players will too. How much better will the Clipps be with a healthy Odom along with emerging Q and Brand and Kandi? Bets case scenerio is 44 wins and maybe the eigth, worse case 40 and back to the lotto.

If we are gonna use both picks Borchardt will probably not be there at 15. Besides I would rather have Marcus and he might be there. Now with the 5th if Woods is there take him. If he isn't then take Butler.

I have to agree with you Believe2000.

Woods & Marcus is better than Butler & Borchadt

I would be ecstatic if the Rockets could end up with Woods & Borchadt.

Keep the 5th (who knows maybe even in the top 3 :D) and 15th; draft and go to work!
