ive seen him dunk more times in this video than his whole rockets career. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/F4bp335HkPg&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/F4bp335HkPg&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I think the Rockets asked Chuck to put on a lot of weight the last couple years, because they felt he'd have to defend centers more (since minutes at PF are scarce with Scola and Landry). All that weight has had an effect on his agility, I think. When you're already short and without a lot of lift, losing what little you have can cause your efficiency to tailspin.
Rockets have found a nice role for him. Defensive plug every now and then. Like v3.0 said he is offensively poor. I dont agree on T-mac being the difference for him but he does need lots of help. Playing next to Yao will get him some open looks but he will never be relied upon offensively. I like the way he is contributing to this team. No nonsense player who can stop opposing big men. Keep it up Chuck.
I don't doubt those stats, but it was pretty evident watching Hayes in the past that he played better on offense when he had more steady minutes and teammates finding him for easy layups. That's because Hayes cannot create offense on his own and his offensive range is about 5 feet and in within the goal. I agree on the adding bulk has made him lose what little agility he had, but he was a limited offensive player to begin with.
It sounds like Morey leaked out one of their internal stats by having Fritz say that Chuck has a .344 Eff FG% allowed against him this year. You don't pick that kind of number out of a box score, but you can eyeball it from watching Chuck's man struggle when he's on him. You'd think it wouldn't kill Chuck to work on his jumper more though. Scola and Landry have obviously improved in that department in their time here, he might as well follow in their footsteps.
Chuck's defense is first rate, but he has lacked some of that same hustle this year and has given up on scoring at all. Scola's not bad defensively and brings the same amount of hustle that Chuck used to. Between Luis and Landry we've got the PF position covered. I'm okay with Chuck getting no minutes at all unless someone is really burning us, like Aldridge was earlier this year. He's an extremely situational player.
Twitter would have sent it to you 3 min earlier (or did me, at least). Great article, though. Holding players to .344 EFG% is amazing. When you consider that he plays more against great players than average ones, it's almost unbelieveable.
Imo he is taking way more shots this year then he did previous years, put backs as well. I love him on the court but when he starts to shoot its worse then the Rafer effect.
Dude he was in the 2005 NCAA Dunk Contest. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/quPggD_RNck&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/quPggD_RNck&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
It's almost like JCF times his articles for the future game. It's like he knows Hayes is going to have a big impact in the next game, which should be true. If Adelman remembers anything about the last Portland game, he'll put in Hayes to guard Aldridge.
It did. I was busy retweeting it and commenting on it to post here. I just said that since the poster asked Yoyo what rss reader he used. edit: Did you have post Chuck in the slam dunk contest?? LOL He was there as a sign of respect rather than any real sky high jumping ability. The NCAA wanted to get him involved as a high profile senior. He was just having a good time.
