Swimming/cycling has been a godsend for my bad knees. It is cumbersome in terms of time (bikes need maintenance, swimming takes time to learn and execute, etc)... but its worth it I'd have to see a more detailed picture of your diet to know what loose ends you can tie up, and also see what your workout routine is like to know if you're lacking in the muscle department. Otherwise best of luck.
what people need to do is log their food and see how their carbs, protein, fat is broken down into. you will be surprised to see how jacked up it is. i tested eating 2000 calories...35% fat, 35% carbs and 30% protein. i gained a lil weight (2-3lbs) over 1-2months. now i am eating 2000 but dropped fat down to 20, 50% carbs and 30% protein. i am actually losing fat! first track your calories, second break the calories down to the major macronutrients. then look at timing. how many meals are you eating? skipping breakfast yest. theres no need to jump on some crazy diet. fix ur lifestyle.
First of all contratulations! Thats a great accomplishment. I would definitely recomend that you try this www.bodyforlife.com You will never be in the gym longer than an hour, and thats only a few times a week. Once you read this book, your life will never be the same.
I'm currently on a sort of quasi-Body For Life plan. I'm not looking to turn into a body builder, I'm just trying to eat healthier, get more exercise and lose a few pounds here and there. I try to eat 3 meals and 3 snacks per day, every 3 hours. I have a Myoplex shake for breakfast, a Myoplex bar 3 hours later, small lunch 3 hours later, Myoplex bar 3 hours later, small dinner 3 hours later, myoplex bar 3 hours later. Sometimes I'll sub a small bowl of cereal or some cashews for a myoplex bar. I read somewhere that cashews have "good" fats in them. I try to make sure most my carbs come from wheats and whole grains. Whole wheat pasta, whole wheat tortillas, whole wheat breads, Fiber One cereal with skim milk, etc. I try to keep track of my exercise by using the Wii Fit for at least 30 minutes a day. Biggest problem for me is trying to keep the “small” meals…well…small.
I'm not going to knock you for the weight loss, but any diet that eliminates vegatables, fruit, and just healthy eating, just isn't healthy. Not only that, it raises your cholesterol which can lead to blockage and heart disease. Hey, as long as you feel good, great, but the body needs good carbs for proper brain function. Did you have headaches?
I tell my clients to make it simple. Cut out all sugar, simple carbs, and alcohol. Other than that, eat sensibly and try to have veggies at every meal. Works like a charm.
This is exactly the problem with Atkins and all other fad eating plans that you cannot continue indefinitely. The "once I get it off, I'll keep it off" notion is pure fantasy if there is no preparation for how to keep weight off. The vast majority of people revert to form and gain it all back within a year.
Wow man, that must add up with all of those supplements but at least they are for a good cause. Its funny isn't it. Your eating 6 times a day and you fell damn hungry all time. Welcome to the wonderful world of a fast metabolism.
I'm 6 ft and range anywhere from 185-195. A few months ago I was on Keto. I dropped an average of about 1-1.5 pounds every day the first week and then slowily lost a little less each day. After like 3 weeks I was down to about 170-175 lean and shredded but I felt ABSOULTELY MISERABLE! My lifts were weak and I felt dizzy, tired and depressed. It was the first extreme diet I've ever done and I have an urge to try it again since I'd be more experienced this time but the fact that I gotta go like 2 weeks without any carbs much less rice makes it really hard. I'd rather just eat clean and do two-a-days. No Rice. No Dice.
Wow, for someone who won't buy bottled water, you sure don't have a problem paying for overpriced, processed, Myoplex sugar bars?
The scary thing is, yes, I do, I got a few white hair as well. Never thought they are related to the diet. Maybe I must stop now.
I know a person who used Atkins and shed almost as much pounds as you did over almost the same time. And he did NOT gain it all back. BUT, what he did was get active and started exercising, eating better. Doing it the prescribed healthier way. Its imperative to find even the lightest intensity consistant exercises. How it'll probably work is lose 50, gain 12, exercise to maintain and lose the rest. Then keep it going. Its better than stopping Atkins and gaining it all back
I am on a diet now because I need to lose about 50-60 pounds to get back to a more ideal weight (I am 285 right now, having already lost 10 pounds). I don't know if its Atkins friendly or not, but my diet has primarily been a low carb diet as well. I eat mainly grilled chicken, almost no red meat at all. I also mix in some seafood like fish and shrimp at times. But by avoiding the red meat diet that so many Atkins dieters stick with, I hope to avoid the long term issues of Atkins which are mainly associated with high cholestrol. I think a diet that are high protein/low carbs would benefit from avoiding red meat and sticking mostly with chicken/seafood as a substitute. But I could be wrong here, I am absolutely not an expert. I am just learning from you guys
if you're trying to cut here is my advice 1. dont run on the treadmill, it's bad for the knees, especially for you overweight/obese folks. instead, use the elliptical machine to supplement your need for cardio 2. diet. yes, just like charles barkley said "it sux, like a fat person on a diet", dieting will suck, but it's an essential part of your road to becoming a healthier you. most fat people lack fiber in their diet, so go pick up a box of fibeOne cereal. 3. say no to sodas. it's hard, but you must. the occasional soft drink is okay, meaning limit to 1 per week. 4. don't plan your diet with 'cheat meals', you're only hurting yourself, either diet, or don't. 5. don't weigh yourself, learn to get a feel of your body, as your workout/diet progress, you can 'feel' the change. 6. gym: weights then cardio, save energy for weights, then burn yourself out on cardio counting calories is not an easy task for many that have been careless eaters all their life, but it is important... i recommend eat what you normally eat, but in smaller portions example: instead of ordering an extra double cheeseburger with your big mac meal, instead just order the big mac meal, and if you normally 'super size', try not to breakfast is good, it's hard to wake up early and head to the gym, but it's not hard to wake up early to stuff your face, so no excuses here, EAT BREAKFAST. it 'breaks' the 'fast' so your metabolism will power up. for men: eggs are good, but did you know just 2 whole eggs exceed the limit for cholestrol intake per day? boil 3 eggs, eat 1 whole, and 2 only whites, feed the rest to your pets (birds love egg yolk). little things goes a long way, bring a zip lock bag with you to work, nuts and a banana(or insert your favorite fruit, or veggie), enjoy this snack 2-3 hours after your lunch don't eat too late, eat at least 4 hours ahead of your bedtime. For folks with a busy lifestyle and have no time to cook, buy a george foreman grill, the thing is amazing, and NO THE CUP IS NOT A DIPPING TRAY. don't get on these quick diets, they haven't been around enough to examine the long term effects, but if you're eating fats and meats and more fats, is that really good for you? think about it. keto & atkins diets does not work in the long run, if you're committed to looking your best and feeling healthy, then commit yourself to the gym, not much in life is easy, especially trying to correct 20+ years of an unhealthy lifestyle.
one word: swimming! It is fun, your sweat won't make you stink, and if you do it consistently it is an excellent and fun way of burning off lots of calories. It is almost like a cardio and some strength training mixed in. At least that is what has been recommended to me but thank god I have access to my own swimming pool because as far as I am I would be really embarrassed from going swimming in public. It is bad for self confidence
Not even once a week?? Seriously, nice post whoever you were before you got banned. Are you married? Try having a lot of sex. It's a lot more fun that running.
yeah, I had been obese for a few years and was quite comfortable with it. What made me changed my mind was one day whe I was walking into an empty swimming pool, there were only four young girls by its side and they were chatting. While I walked near, they all looked up, saw me, then lowered their heads right away! I felt so embarassed cause I knew I looked funny with my naked big breasts. At that very moment I told myself "you must lose weight!"
thanks guys, all of you, being so helpful. I'm still 20 pounds away from my ideal weight and I'll try to lose it by doing exercise. Knowing that my occasional headache may be cause by this diet, that really scares me. Time to live healthy before it is too late!
