http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200212030HOU.html Yao's first game against the Spurs as a rookie, he gets at line of 27pts, 18rebs, 3asts, 3 blks!!! How did he play against the "Twin-Towers" and how come Robinson sucked so much in that game?
I remember that game well. I knew Yao had something in him in the game from one shot he made. It was 15 foot fadeaway jumper on the baseline, while being guarded by Tim Duncan and The "Admiral"David Robinson.
no double teams since he was just a rookie some 15 games in. that's why. and that's what's always gonna happen if you don't double yao. the next game in dallas yao had a monster 1st half on bradley 1-on-1. then don nelson decided to front him and double a bit. yao kinda disappeared in the second half since we didn't know how to deal with the defense.
WOW, didn't realize how much our team sucked. Juaquin Hawkins the starter? An aging washed up Glen Rice? Look at our bench. Moochie Norris Terrence Morris Kenny Thomas Kelvin Cato Eddie Griffin(RIP) All of our bench players are either out of the league or bench warmers for NBA teams.
Funny thing we were eliminated from the playoffs by one game. We were actually as high as 6 I think that season, but we fell down the stretch. If Phoenix could've lost two more games, while if we could have extended our winning streak beyond 3... we would've been playing SA in the first round.
Makes you appreciate the players we have now. I don't know why so many people complain about our current roster, just look at the link
Look at the starters for that game! Other than Yao and Stevie, the rest of the starters combined to a score of 4, 4!!
I'm guessing this game Cemented Yao status as not being a chump? I went through the Clutchfans Archives and this is what I found http://clutchfans.net/game.cfm?gameID=313 I have to admit I'm a Yao lover
