absolutely size matter. I'm just saying what did John Stockton do against Ron Harper in the NBA finals and against Gary Payton, both of those guys we're 6'5 or 6'6 and he was 6' and not exactly full of muscle. John held his own by being smart and quick with his hands. Look up Gary Payton Split Stats

    1997-98 vs Utah 17/7.3/3.5
    1998-99 vs Utah 14.8/8.3/4.8

So even though GP was in his prime and a huge guard in comparison, the jazz as a TEAM found a way to shut him down. Zone defenses were not even around then, now they are making it much easier to contain guards.

    Size do matter.

If AB is 6"3, his already an All star by now. If Yao is 6"10, he be out of the league.

Having A-level skill in at least one area is more important than height. Brooks has A-level speed, a B+ jumpshot, and average court awareness for a point guard. If he were 3 inches taller, but had only average speed, he'd be a marginal player in the league. Having A-level skill in an area gives you strategic options.

Below average abilities (e.g. Yao's footspeed, Battier's inability to create a shot) can be compensated for with game planning, coaching and teamwork (you can coach a D into a C or a B). But it is extremely difficult to coach a skill from a C into an A.

With equal skills and talent always take the taller player.

Howerver, if a smaller guy has more skills, take him.

PG is the one position that height is not as important as quickness and skills.

But you do need some height on the team, this is not a 6 feet and under league.

i'm shocked there are so many people griping about height of a PG. It's seems a little odd, the only time recently it's been a problem is when you play Baron Davis or Billups because they're the only PG's willing to iso on the post.

It's weird because when someone mentions the height of our bigs (other than Yao), positions where the height actually matters game to game, everyone jumps up in a frenzy to defend them and starts talking about arm length etc,.

Give me two b-ball players with equal talent and heart. I'll pick the taller one. Height does matter. It's not the only factor but it definitely matters.

Anyone still remember Mugsy Bogues and Spudd Webb? They were midgets and could still destroy the opposing team.

Did I say every 5 footer was like them? The point I was trying to make is that size becomes a marginal benefit in the face of a superior skillset. What use is size if you cannot catch the other person?

I quite agree. It's just that I don't see the two midgets on the team have the superio skillset you mentioned. We had more turnovers than assists against the Mav. Maybe we should give it time

Aaron Brooks has an undeniable superior skill. He is on a different dimension of speed. There is not a single player in the league that can run him down or outrun him. As far as offense goes, even the dumbest basketball fan can see the importance of that. As far as defense goes, that means Brooks can chase down any PG and even if he is not big or strong enough to pull him down, he can still contest the shot or drive and throw the other guy off balance.

exactly lots of shooters period. TMAC and Rafer took the bulk of our shots and they just don't fit that ssytem, its not adelmans fault. Now theyre gone and youll see how fun a style of bball we're gonna play.
