Just for fun, as well as a time and stress reliever, if the Rockets had the number one pick in a draft that included every single college basketball player, Frosh. to senior, every prep school player you've ever heard about, and every foreign prospect, young and old, who would you pick at that slot, and why? Take into consideration, Houston's immediate needs as well as future holes to fill by departed players, retirings, etc.
Not Ming. I think bust when I think Ming. Me, I would trade down, pick up Butler or Woods, a project big man and pay off Memphis. To me that would be a succesfull draft. And yes, we would still need a big man, but I think a younger Dean Garrett, Erving Johnson, Kevin Willis would be very appropriate to team with Cato. All of those guys have been traded more than once.
Since the suggested scenario here is that we can draft ANYONE we choose, I think the assumption is that we get the #1 pick. In that case, I agree. Unless we draft Ming just to trade him (which not be a bad idea), I think Woods could end up being much better, and want him more than anyone else (or perhaps Gooden).
I'd take Yao Ming. I'd take him simply because of the Rockets needs and filling the hardest position to fill in the NBA.

YAO MING IS A BUST BUST BUST. Im Getting on the Qyntel Woods bandwagon, who is with me!!! If we draft Woods im going to be the official President of the Qyntel Woods fan club. Shotgun i called it HAHAHAHAHAHA
Romeo Amaya :7th grader from Angleton Christian Junior High. 12 years old 6'3 187 lbs. Plays C for the Wildcats, Avgs, 40.1 pts 8.4 Blks, shoots 37% from 3, and 81% from the field. By the time this kid is 18 he should be well on his way to standing 7 ft or higher, and if he can muscle up you'll be looking at Shaqs worst nightmare.
I'll give $50 to each of the Quintel Woods advocates if any of them have actually seen him play a contigous quarter of basketball.
The way I see it, I have seen Woods play as much as Ming, and I am confident that the league of Junior Colleges is as good or better than the Chinese league. And generally, I think the bust chance of a player compared to Tracy McGrady is lower than that of a player that seems to be deeply loved solely because of his great height, and not as much for any amazing skills he has shone.
Damn, out of everyone, several of you still pick Ming. So consider everyone you know who will be in the draft the next 5 or so years. Would Ming still be your choice. I meant that if you could pick anyone out there draft eligeble or not, middle school through the retirement home, would it still be Ming????? I definitely go with Lebron James, and sort out the dead bodies later!
