Hey guys, there in Houston. Can you not start some campaign so that Adelman would start playing Deke? Some chants and signs in TC?
I think Coach Adelman needs to clarify the situation as clearly Yao needs a backup. Rox needs a 7-footer in the paint when Yao's out. The only reason for signing Mutombo must be for him to plays 10-15 minutes (say 3-4 minutes each quarter) to let Yao has a breather. How difficult would it be for Coach at least to try putting Mutombo into the game for a few minutes to see how it goes? In any case, we just lost to two below .50 teams who were very successful in lay-up drills at Rox's paint. Sometimes Coach's slow reaction is beyond our understanding. It seems that he's outmatched by other coaches in allocation of players' PT. If that still happens in playoff games .........

We sure could have used Deke for a few minutes yesterday. Yao can't go 40 minutes every night. Whats Adelman worried about? Dampier and Hollins going Amare on us if Deke is defending? It's sickening and sad to know that our best rebounder and shot blocker is going to retire on the bench as a cheerleader.
Especially, when we have lead or are playing against a big lineup or post team, Mutombo needs to be out there. I would say Mutombo needs to be playing for the simple fact, that Yao cannot log heavy 35+ minutes too many more nights.
If you're best player can't log heavy minutes for the long haul, then you got problems. I see Adelman trying to get Yao's stamina and endurance up with the heavy minutes. Yao has to carry us from here on out and that means being out there on the floor as much as possible. But then again, the cries for limiting Yao's minutes is an indirect admission to one of Yao's flaws of being a centerpiece to a team.
Dikembe will be used against really big lineups -- particularly teams that play big at both the 4 and 5 position. Most teams don't play that way any more. And when Yao is out, the Rockets go more to their double high post offense. I think Adelman prefers running that with Luis, Carl, and Chuck.
I think Adelman is going to start pushing Yao to log more minutes to prepare him for the playoffs. Those that are clamoring for limited minutes for Yao need to understand that there are only 27 games left in the season and they need to start preparing Yao for bigger minutes. Otherwise a sudden change in minutes in the playoffs will be too much of shock for Yao's stamina.
I think Adelman doesn't want to use him because he thinks he cannot contribute. I know he didn't look too good the minutes he played this year but maybe if Adelman gave him more minutes he would get comfortable. I figured we signed Deke especially for the playoffs but no way he's going to get minutes then if he doesn't get any now. He will never get comfortable with the team this way and even though I like RA, I think it's very disrespectful to not use Deke at all. Olajuwon, Kareem, Robert Parish all still got 5-10 mins at the end of their careers, sometimes even 20 mins and they all were a bit rusty like Deke so I do not see the problem. He definetly should've gotten more minutes this year because sometimes we simple lost because of the lack of size. Sad to see a great guy like that rust his way on the bench like that. I've also noticed a change in Deke, like he doesn't enjoy it as much anymore which could also be due to not getting PT but maybe the whole locker room / chemistry issue has bothered him. Last year, all the players were cheering the team on and Deke looked a lot more happy than he did now. Also very sad last year Deke had to ask for PT before Yao went out, I bet that really hurt his dignity. Downright disrespectful that a guy with his record, with his experience, with his qualities to have to ASK for playing time. I hope it will change, but RA is pretty conservative and it doesn't seem like it's going to be any different now.
Yes, you are 100% right, in the playoff your starters need play more min. Yao's stamina could be a problem, that is why I do not want to give his a six year extension after he is 30 year old, but the rockets have to do it, I guess.
I think he should use deke more just to change the pace a bit. Everyone says he's a offensive liability and what chuck hayes isn't. I'd rateher have mutumbo shooting the ball around the basket than Chuck" I can't make a layup but got to the Nba" Hayes. My only assumtion is that he will start playing deke more towards the end of the season so we have him fresh for the playoffs.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Adelman's ever been very fond of primarily defense-minded centers. Think about the guys he ha in Portland and Sacramento -- Cliff Robinson, Jerome Kersey, Vlade, Brad Miller, C-Webb (at times), etc. Those are all good-to-excellent passers who concentrate more on offense than defense. Deke doesn't fit that mold at all.
Glad to see 66.36% people here are casting the same vote as me. I got the feeling that this is a another repeat of SF3 drama. Sometime, I really have a hard time to figure what what is wrong with Adelman.
if the rockets dont use money to resign artest i hope they least call see what center zaza pachulia of hawks wants hes had 2yrs of 10-12pt game scoring so hes not a black hole on offense so he could give rockets 15-18mins game and team with carl landry for nice back up front line and if rockets decide to buy a draft pick this year maybe then they could draft small forward sam young out of pittsburg and have a nice young bench center - 6-11 zaza pachulia power forward- 6-8 carl landry small forward- 6-6 sam young shooting guard- not sure yet point guard- 6-0 kyle lowry not a bad bench to give rest to yao and scola and battier and brooks plus we still have chuck hayes and brent berry to use in certain match ups
Adelman will always be stupid for nothing using Deke. He might not have much offense at all but look at Chuck Hayes. Just a waste.
