Ever get in line at a dual water fountain and see the people ahead of you waiting for the person who's already drinking to finish instead of just drinking from the unoccupied fountain? i see it all the time at the gym and other places. always found it strange. is it b/c drinking from one will lower the water pressure of the other? or people are just too afraid of invading someone's personal space?

Think of all the backwash you're drinking from the spout of the water fountain, I know I gargle and spit the water into the drain of those fountains, some splatter on the spout...yuck

I think people just don't like to drink on the lower fountain. It makes them seem submissive to the one drinking out of the taller fountain.

i was just thinkign about this at the gym this week. I don't get it. I never wait.. I'll go for the open one. But I see people waiting behind me.

And I'm short...I always take the shorter fountain if it's open since I figure other people might not like it

The worst is when people use the higher fountain to fill up their water bottles at the gym.

Do you do this after dogs drink from the fountain, or after they lick themselves, or when...?

I guess it's because no one wants to bend all the way down to the short one. But, if there's a line, I will. Besides, if people have already been using the other one, the water will be less cold.

I agree that, if anyone is filling up a bottle, they should use the short one - easier for that purpose anyway.

It could also be the dual urinal rule as well.

You can't use a urinal if there are only two of them, with no buffer wall at all, right next to each other. Thats just weird. One of these such things exists at a the Oberholtzer hall at U of H, I usually just wait for both of them to free up, or I use the handicap stall.

I lived the majority of my life in California, I never really came across the trough too much.
