What is clear to me is that Yao cannot be option A on a contender. He can be option B on a contender if option A is a very good player (ie McGrady in 04-05) + solid supporting cast (like we have now). I would be depressed about the Rockets' future, with McGrady unofficially announcing his retirement, but the one thing that makes me think we have a promising future is that Daryl Morey is at the helm of the team.
Well let's not forget Dream took the Rockets to the NBA FINALS in his second year. So he was great before his 30s too.
I believe the word is dominate. I almost felt sorry for the Admiral. He was always one of my favorite players, and watching The Rockets beat The Spurs was never as fun as watching them beat The Sonics, Mavericks, or Jazz.
everything negative towards yao ming is reasonable, realistic and justified.. but have patience, have faith in this guy, if anything, this guy is anything but ordinary. i can already see it guys... YAOMING WILL NOT BE DENIED. say it wit me fellas!!
THe playoffs had a different feeling in those years. Hakeem was possessed. He made a dribble, turn around move that was so ridiculously hard. (try and do it yourself). It seemed like the playoffs felt like christmas in the 90's. Dammit, hakeem spoiled all of us as fans. Big men are not suppose to move like that
CAB, What exactly did I misinterpret? You said Yao is not good enough to carry a team, and you said Rockets need to change direction with the superstar or Detroit model. I asked you where to get those players. You said trading. I asked you who are you going to trade with to get those players. Now you are saying developing young players. OK, that's fine. Who are we going to develop? Let me guess, you don't have a name, do you? So you propose to get rid of Yao without any backup plan, or any player in mind to trade for or develop, IN THE NAME OF WINNING A CHAMPIONSHIP? Do I need a reading comprehension lesson, or you need a basic logic lesson? As for a "true" Rockets fan, you can't find any "meaningful" regular season game our starting center led our team to win, I am sorry, sir, you are on your own. I can't help you, and won't bother to click on the search button in this forum for you.
hehe, i wish i'm a healthy and cool schizo like heypartner, but sorry, me ain't !!! cabbage, i'm not delusional. believe in ME!
You underestimate his greatness: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Iz7ZUzqG93c&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Iz7ZUzqG93c&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Rick Smith??? I really have no idea what you talking about. The only player that I think in the same category as Rick Smith is Louis Scola. Rick Smith cant dominate the game like Yao does. And c'mon, Yao is way better than that.
If that's so difficult for you to comprehend, then me enunciating it once more most likely won't make a difference. What's with this "true Rockets fan" nonsensical rhetoric you keep regurgitating? I presented an opinion and have supported it with substantive arguments. I didn't claim to hold any type of higher ground so I have no idea what you're insinuating. And if you're seriously insisting that Yao has led this team to big victories, I don't know what to say, really. It's pretty well documented that this team has crumbled in the 4th quarters of close games. We only beat Boston because we stopped going to Yao late and Aaron Brooks put us on his back.
hakeem was merciless... kareem, ewing, admiral, shaq... he destroyed them one bye one and killed whatever little pride they had left whatsoever.. RUTHLESS
Yao Ming is Yao Ming and Hakeem is Hakeem, two completely different players. Yao Ming hasn't been required to carry the team yet and has hardly ever been placed in the position to do so. The character of Yao Ming is such that he just wanted to blend in and help through a team concept. Along with this he has always played the role giving away to the more experienced player in Tracy McGrady and we have never had a Guard who was determined to get the ball into Yao Ming, Possibly this might change as he becomes the obvious choice to be the teams leading scorer.
100% Agree. The guy who created this thread probably losing big money in the stock market today, so he need to bash Yao for no reasons.
Does it really make sense to argue about the future? My advice: sit back, watch the rest of the games and then figure out what to do in the off-season based on that. Any time I hear somebody predict the future with a tone along the lines of "This will definitely happen..." instead of "My best guess is that..." my bull**** detector goes off.
