i think conan should stay in NY but i hope he does great in LA. he's in a whole different class than leno, who often just isn't that funny, and letterman, who often has more of an attitude especially as he gets older. i went to a taping of conan's show and it is one of my best memories of NY. and i predict that tonight's show is going to be epic. the guest list is secret but i bet andy richter comes back.
Why can't NBC just get rid of Leno as originally planned? It's not like that he's funny anyway. Just make Conan the main guy and give Jimmy Fallon a chance.
Honestly, I don't see Leno surviving that time slot very long. ABC and CBS will slay him - and NBC keeps their promise to keep him but then drop him because of ratings.
I wish Conan would stay in NY too, but I guess NBC is trying to keep tradition. Leno pulled a Brett Favre, except NBC gave in. That's why they're in this predicament.
That's all true, but it also may end up being to Conan's benefit that Leno is on NBC at 10pm/9pm rather than on opposite the Tonight Show on ABC or FOX or something.
To be honest, it's not like NBC has had great programming over the past few years. Leno's probably an improvement.
look at it from the standpoint of the number of production work that will not happen now due to the Leno slot. producers, show runners, actors, writers, and directors etc... all lose out to Leno
I myself have been slowly warming to Craig Ferguson. I think Craig has a weird sense of humor that appeals to me more than Conan's much more loud antics. I think cbs is allowing craig a lot more leeway. Tonights conan show will be great im sure, ricter will be back and I am sure we are going to get a year 2000 skit. Should be fun.
Also what I don't understand is how leno continually maneuvers passed these guys. He won the job over letterman, now he beats out conan once again and clearly leno is past his prime. I mean did leno ever have a prime. I can't remember ever laughing at one of his jokes I mean Joan Rivers was better, Arseno was better, Letterman, Conan,Ferguson is getting better than him. The only guys I hated worse than Leno is Craigh Kilburn, Pat Sajak, and dennis miller and they wer god awful.
Well, for one, Leno does get ratings and wins Late Night, so somebody out there must like him. I don't know any of them personally, but they must exist somewhere. But even more than that, I think he's both deceptively savvy (knowing to ask for a guarantee to fill Carson's spot rather than the measly $1 million penalty that Dave got in his contract) and ingratiating. I think he makes an effort to befriend the suits on a personal level (both by being friendly and accomodating, but also by doing all sorts of NBC-related promotions that a lot of people would consider crap-work), generating a degree of loyalty that people like Letterman (who was famously at odds with NBC management a lot of the time) just don't have it in them to generate.
During the years 2004-2007 I was a die hard dedicated fan. I would not miss an episode. That was until I got out of college and got a job and had to wake up a 5 am. He is the greatest.
Plus it's hard to watch if when you are at a gay night club... Sorry, I just saw that thread on the front page, nobody wants it to die.
I haven't really watched Conan since Andy left, but I'm enjoying the clips from the old times. I always liked that the show came across, especially in the early days, as something that was thrown together for essentially no money by a couple of gusy in their basement. I know the reality was far different, but still.... The show had a lot of great bits over the years. I imagine I'll try and watch him on the Tonight Show, but I can't imagine it being anywhere near the same (much like Dave's show changed a good bit when he moved to CBS).
anyone remember when he showed NBC's new show to compete with the reality TV shows? It was Real World: Survivor, he got the band Survivor and put them all in a room like Real World. All they did was sit around and watch Rocky.
