He has a player option for next season worth $3.5 million. Chance are high that he'll take it since he's unlikely to get any great long-term offer. His salary, combined with Lowry's, will actually be greater than Alston's for next season. It looks like this wasn't a cost saving move.

That's why fans see him as garbage, they're expectations or hopes are too high for him and they try to make him or hope he becomes something more than he can be. He is what he is, a spot up shooter with length that can get a block here and there and is going to give you only a few minutes a night. Use him and see him for what he is, not what you wish he was because then he'll always look like a bust to you.

    Forgot to add next year.

This is somewhat like the Bobby Jackson deal. They get a 2 year contract to play around with next year, and with the decrease in salary cap in the next few years, you can get at least some value as a buyer. Personally, I'm hoping McGrady's expiring + Cook's expiring could be turned into something big next year.

Blinebury mentioned that they could try to buy him out. One way or another the Rockets are saving money in this deal.

Solid bench player who adds something the rockets didn't have. Adelman loves shooters and he can shoot. Maybe he plays behind Yao.

yeah that's what morey said he'd hope to do, so it should turn out that way assuming the right offer is made. Well Morey didn't mention tmac specifically, but that he hoped this trade would give them an opportunity to make a bigger trade next year or in the summer.

Hope the kid can start torturing the net from downtown once again. (fingers crossed) Something that might help Yao out when he gets all the double-teams.

cook's best shot, if he wants to stay here, is to try to become a bullard v.2.

Cook's not gonna play much here. His value will be as an expiring contract next year.

He has played much in the last couple of years. His "glory" days with the Lakers are behind him now.

Cook is one of the rejects from LA. A few seasons back he managed to hit several threes against us. He can shoot .. and that's about it.

Brain Cook is not Daequan Cook that won the 3pt shooting out at AS weekend.

    optimistic outlook:
Cook has played spot minutes at center for the Lakers. And actually had a better PER there than at the 4 a couple seasons, but again its in very limited minutes. (And maybe cuz Kwame Brown and Chris Mihm were the centers in front...). But its a little flexibility & you could probably escape with Scola at center and bring in Cook at the 4 or vice versa.

Cook is a long legit 6-10 unlike Scola & Landry.

    realistic outlook:
I can see him at most barely being a poor man's Pete Chilcutt - Scott Padgett type... but his defense is pretty bad & he's soft. He's pretty much lacking in most NBA basketball skills except spot up shooting & the occasional block & pass. Maarty Leunen can probably come over and beat him out.

Also even though he was deep in the Orlando bench that team is the definitive inside-out big men space the floor team and still couldnt get time.

from his laker days, he was definitely a bench scrub. trust me, ive seen lots of laker games in the past....all he could do is shoot. his defense and rebounding is horrible. dont expect to get any playing time
