Yeah i said BRENT BARRY!! What has he done, you ask? Well he's obviously not played as great as he could have this season, but i'm talking about what he brings on the bench and practice. I know its expected for vets to lead and help others out, but i dont think some fans realize how much this guys helps out his teammates behind the scenes. I've seen brent step in during huddles, when he hasn't even been playing, most guys would stay seated, but he steps in when he sees a player isn't getting it or has questions and he'll explain it to them. He's been very encouraging to the young guys like Brooks and Landry. He's the first one to meet Brooks after a miss at the buzzer to pat him on the back and tell him to keep his head up. He's the guy who runs to a teammate after a mistake and get in his ear and explain what he could have done better. I've seen him talk to all of the guys, but mainly Brooks, so i think he's played a big part in Brooks "break out" season this year. A lot has been made about deke coming in to provide support and leadership, but he's more about emotion and keeping things calm and keeping everyone in a good mood, but brent brings specifics, specific advice, explanations, words, etc. (deke does as well, but i think deke's advice is purely from experience, where Barry's is from a high basketball IQ AND experience).
how come? He's been doing it all season and i think fans have focused purely on his play too much. What he's brought behind the scenes is much bigger than most can imagine. And i'm not like a huge barry fan trying to talk him up or anything. I just like to watch whats going on around the action and keep noticing Barry popping up when he's not even getting any PT.
We should start Brent. He should play besides Yao and give Yao some assists by hitting some kick-out wide open threes (which Alston can't make ).
