There are a lot of discussions about fans' reaction, both good and bad. it would be interesting to find out the reaction of the players. How would they feel about the trade? Would they share the same sentiment that is shared by many here: the season is lost because they lost their starting pg. Morey made a move for future considerations instead of focusing on what we have this season. Or would they feel the same way as Morey: Lawry is an upgrade and he can bring more to the rockets? Or somewhere in between? I am leaning towards the second because Morey is hinting about big moves this summer rather than what we can accomplish this season. What do you think?
Don't assume Lowry is purely a project, the guy can contribute now. I'm sure the team knows this, just like they know Rafer was 32 and didn't exactly fit with the rest of the core, age-wise that is. They'll know this was a move to keep them competitive much longer, rather than later in the future.
and im not trying to say this was all age-related, of course there was rafer's anemic jumpshot to consider, which i'm sure the team was VERY aware off. This move also lets the team run some more and gives them more pep int heir step, that's actually a bonus because guys like landry, wafer, brooks, scola, ron, battier, they really don't have a problem running. Yao is the only slow one here and it may benefit him at times since he won't have to run upcourt if they get a quick fast break,
The Rockets also had some inside information, though it was not a key to the deal. Rockets director of player development Brett Gunning was an assistant coach at Villanova in the two seasons Lowry played there and raved about Lowry as "a natural competitor." "He’s the type of guy, he could show up tomorrow, get off the plane, and run right on the court and play his butt off," Gunning said. "He is just a natural competitor at everything he does. That’s going to bring a great component to this team, especially to go along with a guy like Ron (Artest) and Luis (Scola), just a naturally competitive, tough guy, which I think fans here will love and see right away. "Defensively, he causes havoc, whether it is deflections, dives, steals, (drawing) charges, which ignite the fast break. He is great at getting to the rim, great at drawing fouls in transition. If he doesn’t do that, he is great at finding spot-up shooters. The upside is the havoc he can cause on defense, which lead to easy baskets in transition for himself and guys spotting up." "I was surprised," Brooks said. "I didn’t hear anything was about to happen. "I know it’s a big responsibility. I’ve learned a lot from him (Alston), Steve (Francis), Bobby Jackson. I’ve been in great position. It’s a great opportunity for me and I’m looking forward to it. I’m excited. I’m ready. It’s what I’ve been working for. It’s my dream. Not to say there will not be ups and downs, but I’m prepared for it."
No, Just Yao. McGrady doesn't care as long as he isn't traded he won't be mad about anything. Yao and Artest will be mad, I can't say anything else for the other guys.
Again why would Magic take Alston instead of Lawry? The rockets and magic are similar because both rely on 3pt shooting heavily. It seems to me that Morey wants Lawry to be the starting pg according to his interview. However, I would imagine the other players and coach staff would be more comfortable with Brooks. But is Brooks ready for that? I don't think he is ready and I have a feeling some players share the same opinion.
They want veteran leadership, SVG is already familiar with Rafer Alston because Rafer did play with the Heat in the 2003/2004 season and that was the year SVG took over. Magic don't want potential guys or future players, they want players who are in their prime/peak now instead of guys who have a chance to be great in their prime or in their peak.
I'm guessing this is the least of McGrady's concerns right now. He's likely only sulking and thinking about himself.
They probably did. But you have to realise that Morey is in charge here. (can't say the same about the Mcgrady incident) Also, It seems to me Yao is not very outspoken. He likes to keep stuff inside.
Their situation sounds a lot like ours though, is this a future rebuilding move? Are we ready to make a push now or is Morey signaling a defeat this season by trading their starting PG.
Players should stay together and concentrate on what they are paid for by bringing more wins for H-town.
If Morey is doing that he is a rube. I think he is high on Kyle Lowry and also I think he wants to clear some cap space for the upcoming free agent class. But I am also high on Lowry because I believe he can do a lot to help this team more than Alston. Although Lowry doesn't really shoot a high % himself, I like the way he attacks the basket and I like the way he passes-first and I think this is the guy us rocket fans were looking for as a point guard. Kyle Lowry is The Answer.
