The Rafer trade is about locker room leadership too.

Ugh, I said there was more to getting rid of Rafer than just getting Lowry, that removing him from the locker room and as a position of leadership was probably considered.

You don't trade your teams vocal leader without having a think about how it will effect the heirarchy of the team going forward.

Well, not unless you are the Clippers organization.

You guys can disagree, no worries.....I just think it was part of the total equation.

I do wonder about reading comprehension around here though.....the word TOO in the thread title should have been a CLUE.

    :D

Yao is quiet. He is not a vocal leader. Neither was Hakeem.

Rafer was a leader - a bad leader.

this is a sarcasm post i hope, horrible trade, rafer was one of my favorite players, and he's coming into his elements and boom morey just had to pull the trigger, trading a veteran point guard for 2 players that does not make houston better.

Yes, so as an organization wouldn't you look to REMOVE him from that role and have a think about WHOM would or should fill it once he is gone?

    :D

Yao can lead that way too, but Rafer was a vocal leader, now he is out of the way....to me it is a good thing.

Yao has nothing to do with it. Maybe Alston got traded for calling out Tracy so much in the press.

That is a great point too, they probably got tired of all the bickering in the press......but Artest was way worse than Rafer.....I think they just wanted Rafer gone.....and also maybe they value Lowry as an up and comer...

Like someone said you guys are clearly looking into this whole thing way too much.

If that was the reason then Ron would of been gone too.

And I still don't remember Rafer ever calling T-mac's name out. He said stuff that was common sense. What is Rafer suppose to do? No comment every single question he is asked.

If Yao can't even be the leader over Rafer, you know there's a problem.

Yao comes from a different culture, and while I admit I am not Chinese, I think their culture has a clear belief in respecting your elders etc.

Maybe some of our Chinese fans could comment instead of the US ones that have no leadership experience.

    ;) - just kidding...sort of.....

Ok,it's safe for Tracy now come back and claim after the Nth opinion he realize a surgery is totally unnecessary, all he needs is just a couple of days rest(How could this soap opera without such a drama ending?!).Then he'll be back on court and hold the ball as long as he want, keep taking his rediculas jump shots,no one could point a finger on that anymore 'cause that guy is in Orlando!

Speaking of leadership,"it's still on me".

I'm not totally surprised.Rafer wasn't blocking anyone from being a leader. I agree with you. Getting Lowry as a backup is all right, but he isn't as experienced as Rafer. It will hurt us in the short term.

I am a CHinese fan. Our culture does have a clear belief in respecting our elders, and Rafer obviously is the eldest guy in ROX. However, our culture also have belief in juniors leading the seniors as long as he is capable and competent.
I believe Yao's not taking over the leadship is due to his language ability. In China (CBA), he is the team leader of Shanghai and Chinese national basketball team and he talks a lot. IN ROX, he seldom talks to his teammates, or maybe sometimes he does, but his teammates do not understand him.
