If we win the lottery and get the number one pick overall, what do you all think? Houston trades #1 overall and filler to Chicago trades #3 overall and Curry Ming doesn't want (won't be allowed) to play for us and Chicago wants the guy pretty bad.
No way Chicago will give up that much for Ming. Not unless he proves to be as sure fire as Patrick Ewing or Shaq (which he is 99.999% sure not to). Even then we'd have to give up some more talent in return.
It is pretty clear that Ming is the real deal after his initial workout. If the Bulls want him as much as others are saying then I don't think that this is so unlikely. We probably would have to give up more (Moochie?), but if we offered Ming to the Bulls I think they would bite. We could also release them from any obligations they have with us regarding the Bryce Drew trade. I just really, really want Woods also and this seems like the perfect way to get him. 1-Francis/Tierre 2-Mobes/Torres 3-Rice/Woods/Morris 4-MoT, Griffin 5-Cato, Curry, veteran
I dont get to check out this site as much as I used to, so I didn't see that this exact scenario has been discussed in another thread. Anyway, please go ahead and comment.
you never know, this is the same Jerry Krause that traded his franchise player for a high-schooler.... Also in that lineup you posted, where's Kenny Thomas?
If Ming is not merciless and we decided to get trade down for Woods, we could accomplish this by swapping positions with Chicago (#1 for #3 for example) plus getting #30, Fizer and Bagarac and sending Fizer and Bagarac on to N.Y. for #7. We could then draft Stoudemire or Marcus at #7. New York gets a quality PF, a former #24 for their center (Bagarac is 7-1, 280 lbs.); Chicago gets Ming for players they don't need; and the Rockets get #3 and #7 and #30. Everybody is happy -- except I don't really think we should give up Ming.
I was just thinking. We could do the same thing with Golden State. We could swap #1 (Ming) for Dampier and Murphy. Murphy is a backup on this team, and Ming would replace Dampier at center. We could then send K.T. and Dampier to the Knicks for #7, keeping the 6-11, 245-lb Murphy as a bonus PF or trade bait. The same type of scenarios could be worked with Memphis (our 2003 #1 and Battier?) and Cleveland (Diop and Mihm?). Oh, I'd still rather keep Ming.
What are you, the GS GM??? If anybody in the Rockets' front office was even considering something like this, they should be fired immediately.
I did forget the swap of draft positions part to get Woods, but please read the last sentence. These are only wild suppositions in the event we decided to do an unlikely trade of #1.
I really dont consider us trading the number one at all far fetched. Ming is the consensus number one with Williams close behind. Neither of these players will be Rockets b/c one is redundant and the other will pull a Stevie on us regardless. Whichever of the 3s we want, we can trade down atleast 2, maybe even 3 places to get him and add a player/get rid of a contract.
Too much paranoia on this one, UT Baller. Stevie is not leaving and neither will Ming. Houston is an international city (fourth largest in the U.S.) with an Olympic Gold coach and a large Asian population. The Red Chinese will be satisfied, and Ming will enjoy his boots and Stetson. Oh, I'm a UT swimmer (got an email from my college roomie reminding me that was a long time ago).
... only on this board. Apparently I am the only person who is concerned that a projected second rounder can just walk in on Ming and dunk. He is afraid to do real work outs, instead just showing off what he can do in a controoled enviornment. This guy has Shawn Bradley written all over him.
Personally, I don't see this happening. Additionally, as ha been pointed out, some people still don't see Ming as the concensus number one anyway given that he let a crappier 7 foot player score on him one time and that is just unbeleivable for a consensus number one Anyway, in regard to the initial proposal, I'd probably try and get Chandler first.
Yeah, there's no way that Ming is as sure as Shaq or Ewing were. His rebounding is highly questionable as is his ability to bang down low with real big men (as oppossed to what he's been dealing with in China). A 7'5" center with questionable rebounding skills and toughness isn't sure fire in my mind.
Is Ming going to be some dominant, revolutionary palyer in the NBA? I haven't the slightest. What we do know is that he has been hyped up by most every scout that has seen him and his initial workout did little to sugest that they were wrong. Rumors (I know not the best things to base ones opinion upon, but all we have to work with) persist that Ming is heading to a city with a higher Chinese population (NYC, Chitown, or the Bay Area are the places most commonly alluded to). Jason Williams has proven that he potentially is the latest line of points in the Steve/AI/Marbury mold by dominating everybody in college for the past 3 seasons. These 2 are the consensus first 2 pix in this draft, but neither of them make much sense for Houston should we be in the situation to draft number #1. So the point is.........what do we want from the aforementioned teams (more importantly maybe is how badly do they want Ming/Williams)?
