if tmac feels the fans have turned on him then he should just work hard to prove them wrong and win them back.. not this bull**** about calling out surgery or pouting... i still stand behind tmac but he needs to man up and either A) have the surgery REHAB it and then come back or B) rest, REHAB, and come back strong and fit into the team
Just to respond to all the Popovich yelling at Barry part. How in the hell is it going to help Duncan when Pop yells at another player when he didn't do anything wrong ?? Doesn't make sense
So this must be what it's like to look at the situation rationally. Somehow on this site the whole TMac drama has been talked up so much that it's apparently become accepted as "common knowledge" that TMac is faking an injury to screw the Rockets over, secure a max contract for himself in 2010, make sure he isn't traded anywhere, and to allow himself more time to sit on his mom's couch playing XBox 360. Now no one close to the situation has actually come out and said anything close to resembling a hint that Tracy is faking this. There's also no real evidence to support it. In fact, there's actually evidence to the contrary. I doubt Tracy would get rejected by the bottom of the rim on a healthy knee. Plus, the guy's got a tremendously long history of having significant injuries. Add that stuff to the post from last week of the guy saying team doctors said McGrady needs microfracture surgery and McGrady saying the same thing. Take all of that and you have to admit that it makes sense that his knee is real messed up. The only reason it's thought of as a possibility that it's not legit is because of speculation from people who are not connected to the team and the fact that the Rockets have not yet confirmed that he's done. The Rockets certainly have motivation to not announce that he's out for the season so that they could either trade him or because you'd always like to have your players available and they wouldn't want him out for the year unless they're convinced it's necessary. Basically, what Im saying is that we need to step back and look at the situation from an objective perspective without all the preconceieved notions that McGrady is an evil, lazy, worthless individual. When you do that, you'll probably realize that "he is who we thought he was," and that is a very injury prone player who's pretty friggin frustrating to be a fan of. But let's all remember that a month ago 90% of this board was begging for either Tracy or the Rocket's organization to decide that Tracy needed to shut it down because his knee was too messed up to help the team. Now when everyone gets their way they jump on him as a liar. I really think that some folks on here truly believe that TMac is on a personal mission to ruin their life and every decision he makes must have evil intentions. Nah, he's not, he's just a frustrated, injured player who doesn't really handle media situations professionally.
Oh get out of here with your rational thoughts! Everything every whipping child the GARM has ever choosen has done nothing but the most dastardly deed in order to make us all suffer, just for the pure joy of being pure evil.... Back on topic, great interview from JVG. Always bring plenty of solid information and knowledge.
Well it's at least comforting to know that there are still a few people around here who are capable of viewing this situation objectively, especially given how little of the information floating around this forum can be actually counted as reliable these days. It seems that JVG was the only coach who ever truly understood Tracy McGrady. This is not to slight Adelman -- he truly does have the ability to get along with anyone, but at the same time he hasn't shown the ability to manage player situations and emotions and keep his entire squad constantly motivated the way JVG was able to. That's probably a side-effect of his more laid-back approach compared to JVG's more extreme hands-on style, but it's the one thing I miss about JVG -- no matter what was going on behind the scenes or injury wise, he always had his guys motivated and overachieving. Of course, that said, he lacked Adelman's offensive creativity and tended to put players in boxes...and that's probably the main reason why he's no longer coaching the Rockets.
I think this is pretty on target with my added comments--but even that shouldn't made him public enemy #1 as you state. He has been hardly as frustrating on the court as say Steve Francis or off of it/relationswise as say Snottie Pippen.
No, the main reason why he [Mister Van Gundy] is no longer coaching the Rockets is his inability to win. Adelman has this season and probably two more to get to at least the Western Conference finals.
To approach different players in different way, is it a double standard? i don't think so. Since TMac is very sensitive so JVG always encouraged him but not criticized him. Since Yao grew up in a critical society, I mean China, Yao are happy to get criticized, So coach JVG satisfied him. That's how JVG is a great motivator. Did any players played JVG dislike JVG? probably SF3 is the only one who had some complaints, even Bonzi didn't say bad thing about JVG. When you said 'laughable', you lost logic there. If it's a common knowledge that "Yao is never going to be able to cover that, neither can Shaq.....", then what coach can do other than said "play harder"?
I agree, with one exception. Philly fans are ALWAYS to blame. They are to blame for their teams choking; they are to blame for their general managers sucking; they are to blame for the Philly weather sucking. Maybe some day when they stop complaining to the rest of the world about how much their sports teams suck, they might actually deserve some of the success they've received.
I wouldn't bash either of them in the press if I was their boss, but talking about them as a fan is fine. DD
