The Rockets reached an agreement to trade point guard Rafer Alston to the Orlando Magic, an individual with knowledge of the deal said Thursday.
The Rockets will receive forward Brian Cook from Orlando and guard Kyle Lowry from the Memphis Grizzlies in the trade.
Rockets officials would not comment until the deal was approved by the NBA and made official.
Memphis will receive Orlando's first-round pick as part of the trade.

lowry is a nice young player, and cook fills the need for more length up front. it is surprising to say the least, but I like the return for alston.

lowry is a quick point guard that can break defenses down and penetrate, something alston doesn't do. cook is 6'10/6'11 and hits threes, basically a poor man's charlie V. brooks can fill alston's role as a starter by throwing the ball into yao and spotting up for threes.

Does it mean we are upgrading our pg? B. Davis is coming?

Wow, as much as I wanted another point guard instead of Rafer...I'd much rather have kept Alston in this case.

I waited around all day for this?

    F my life.

Bye Rafer I will miss you. Despite your bricks, you ran the show efficiently and always gave it your all.

So we're not even getting a pick out of this?

    I'm a Rafer hater and I don't get it.

i don't like this deal. rafer played very well when tmac wasn't on the court. i don't know whether it's for furture consideration or not. what we get seems to me not an upgrade over rafer.

Really overloaded at PF now. Landry has to be part of another trade.

Rockets are making a run at the lottery if there isn't another deal for a real PG that was done.

Has to be more to this...

Rafer was one of the most unappreciated players in this organization in a very long time. Was he a superstar? No. But he knew his role and he played it well.

Horrible trade if that's all there is. Morey is better than that. There has got to be something else going on!

Lowry and brooks the backcourt? Yaoming will finish the rest season with 5.5 field goal attempts per game.

I'm glad we have kyle Lowry, he murders us every year. All he needs is an opportunity and trust, we weren't getting any better with the Jekell/Hyde known as Rafer Austin. We might be using these picks to move on B-diddy. Who knows anymore
