Yea, it is real tough to see a tough no nonsense coach liking a moody sissy drama queen. JVG is a tough no nonsense coach. JVG obviously likes Tracy. Therefore, it's quite possible that McGrady's not nearly the moody sissy drama as he's made out to be. Or not, all of us on CF prolly have a better read on the situation from reading each other's opinions about McGrady and watching a couple games on TV than a guy that coached him for a few years...

JVG was tough on everyone EXCEPT the drama Queen, it was the double standard that I never liked with him.

I do appreciate his opinions though, he is a very intelligent man regarding basketball.

To be honest, sometimes I have the exact same thoughts ....

But I have seen enough, even during JVG era TMac was a drama queen.

JVG loves Tmac because Tmac is a great player, and most importantly an unselfish player and a play maker. Tmac played his heart out for JVG. Some of you seem to forget that 3 vs 6 playoff series with Dallas. We had no BUSINESS to even be in that series, but Tmac's efforts that year were superhuman. JVGs memory isn't as short as most of the fan's on this message board.

Tmac played great, he was a great player.

That Tmac is dead, can't live in the past,......time to move on.

I think he was more "tough" on him than Rick has been. JVG actually got T-Mac to play some defense and helped mold him into a more all-around player than just a high scorer.

DD, there was no Tmac drama when JVG was here. If you also remember, Jon Barry said Tmac was hands down the greatest player he ever played with hands down and that he was amazing (I remember hearing him say this on sr610). JVG and Jon Barry are very intelligent, no-nonsense type guys. That should tell you something.

So I cant start any threads right now...but I mean I want to ask this question. Are WE the fans to blame for this TMAC situation. At least partly? I mean I gotta admit I do kind of feel bad...any stretch of games this guy sits out we turn on im quicker than Benjamin Linus (LOST reference). Do any of you feel this way. I mean TMAC is here to stay and I feel the need to back this man. Show him support so that he can get back and contribute to this team. Be optimistic.

You can't blame the fans. As a player you can't let what fans do effect you to the point where you make bad decisions.

He was not tougher, he was just better at motivating him.

Adelman needs self starters, JVG is great at manipulation.

Haven't you said before that McGrady needs a coach like JVG to motivate him?

Do you think its appropriate for a coach to treat all his players exactly the same? I forgot who on the radio I heard it from, but Brent Barry said that Popovich would always yell at him when Duncan made a mistake -- because he thought Barry could handle that criticism better. I thought that was interesting, because the Popovich myth is he treats all his players exactly the same, from role players to superstar.

    Yes, partly.

But, I do think Tmac himself should get stronger mentally.

Yes, but why screw over the rest of the team for one player?

Popovich is a much better coach than either JVG or Adelman.

This may not be the correct thread to state this, but my theory is that Tmac is absolutely furious about Ron Artest. I believe that its obvious Ron Artest is not playing to win, but playing for a new contract. Some of the 3pt shots he takes, and selfish plays he makes, tell me, "hey i need to up my numbers to get a good contract". Artest has never been a strong character guy, and I have no reason at all to believe he cares about winning, or cares about this organization.

Tmac wants to win and has been a part of building this organization over the past few years and getting to a few first round game 7s, and now you have a guy they brought in who just wants a new contract. Combine that with the fact that Adelman and Artest are buddies, combine that with the fact that the organization doesn't believe that Tmac is hurt as badly as he says he is, combine all that with the fact that the organization is talking about trading Tmac and yeah Tmac has every reason to be furious. This was HIS team and they Houston Rockets management blew that up in his face. JVG knows things that we don't, and I believe that I'm touching on them slightly with this post... and there is probably more.

Ron plays defense hard. Tracy doesn't, or seldom does.

Why would he spend so much of his energy on the D end if he is playing for a new contract?

Fans are NEVER to blame. You have to understand that we PAY to go see games. We spend time watching them play. If it weren't for us, they won't even have jobs. We are tired of his drama and his lack of heart and effort. I have seen sponges tougher than him.
