As in one of mine went out. Is this the type of thing I should replace myself, or get it done professionally? I have very little mechanical skills, and I'm not sure how diificult it would be to get into the housing. Any suggestions? It's an 06 Volvo S80.
It should be pretty straight-forward, but considering your history on this board, you might be too much of a risk. I don't think it would hurt ordering the part and eye-balling it first.
If you can find the back of the head light, ( I am not sure how much is in the way of it) then you just take out the bulb, unplug it and put in a new one. You need an H7 base bulb.
I've had mine replaced at Pep Boys on a couple of occasions. They replaced it no charge after I bought the bulb there.

Oh really? That would be worth a look-see. Here is a link to some available headlights. Any advice on which I should go for? As long as I'm doing it, I'd like to get whatever those headlights are that the "new" style, as in whichever ones kinds look purpleish and brighter than normal headlights. http://www.car-stuff.com/mmparts/volvo-s80/headlight_bulb.html
just check the owner's manual and see which bulb you need. then you should be able to pop your hood and unbolt the nuts so the headlight comes off...then just replace the bulb and you're good to go.
While I am sure that you would be able to replace your lights on your own with a little effort, I would personally recommend against those purplish lights. Just my opinion, but I, and from what I understand many others, feel that they are somewhat distracting to other drivers on the road.
I dunno, probably the ultra is a little brighter, the only reason I linked the Ultra though is because you get the free shipping. The ones you linked are the cheapest ones they make though.
Thanks! I ordered the $30 ones. It'll be here in 5-9 days. I'll let you know how much trouble I get into when they arrive trying to install them.
I know I'm too late, but the headlights on your car are actually a little hard to get to. Not that it's impossible, just that someone with little mechanical inclination would find replacement of Volvo headlights to be a bit of a pain in the ass. Be gentle and take your time and you should be able to get it done, though. And by "be gentle", I mean "be sober" One tip: Don't touch the bulb itself with your bare hands. You can touch the metal part all you want, but the glass and that coated tip will incur damage in the long term (somehow) from the oils on your skin.
