Bill Simmons talks to Hollinger about his career, advanced stats. Rockets mention in there as well with that Battier article recently.

A lot of discussion on the difficulty in tracking defense statistically. Very interesting conversation, in my opinion.

Interesting convo. I think the NBA should start keeping a stat for "contested shots". If a player is defending a shooter and forces him in to a miss, he should get credit for that statistically.

I thought you posted a "bull****" report on Hollinger.

What they talk about around the 5 minute mark is pretty much what I was doing when I was being paid to chart games.

Have you tried doing that for any Rockets players?

Or was that close to what you did in those "Yao touches" threads early in this season?

I did a few Rockets games, but there's so much information to fill in for every play that it was hard to even pay attention to trends for individual players. Although, I did remember Battier being very consistent with hard close outs. The only other player that jumped out at me was Andre Miller, and it wasn't for good reasons.

Charting Yao's touches was child's play compared to what I was doing for pay. It was anything but straight forward.

EDIT: Listening to this podcast, I find it funny that they keep saying P E R. I've always referred to it as "per".
