Astros place RHP T.J. Mathews on DL with strained biceps May 3, 2002 HOUSTON (TICKER) -- Houston Astros righthander T.J. Mathews on Friday was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right biceps. Mathews pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief against Montreal on Thursday, allowing one run and two hits before leaving the game with the injury, which was revealed in an MRI following the 8-2 victory. Mathews has no record and a 1.69 ERA in nine appearances, spanning 16 innings, this season. The 32-year-old signed on January 7 after spending the 2001 season with Oakland and St. Louis. He is 32-26 with 16 saves and a 3.76 ERA in eight major league seasons.
Bill Brown was just quoted as saying that Mathews would be out 4-6 weeks with his current injury. That doesn't bode well for our bullpen!
