Just to let you know, this isn't the same as All-NBA teams, because those are just fully based on who is the best this season. I would also like you to add to, to compare them when they are all fully healthy. Here is my list PG: 1.) Chris Paul 2.) Deron Williams 3.) Chauncey Billups 4.) Steve Nash 5.) Tony Parker SG: 1.) Kobe Bryant 2.) Dwyane Wade 3.) Brandon Roy 4.) Joe Johnson 5.) Manu Ginobili SF: 1.) LeBron James 2.) Paul Pierce 3.) Carmelo Anthony 4.) Kevin Durant 5.) Danny Granger PF: 1.) Tim Duncan 2.) Kevin Garnett 3.) Dirk Nowitzki 4.) Pau Gasol 5.) Carlos Boozer C: 1.) Yao Ming 2.) Dwight Howard 3.) Al Jefferson 4.) Shaq 5.) Nene-Bynum-Big Z, If I had to pick it would probably be Nene, due to efficiency.
I love the Rockets as much as the next guy, but Yao over Howard?? I know this comes the day after him dropping 48, but come on. Howard is so much more consistent than Yao, and really gives a team an option that can come through in the clutch. And I know "healthiness" is a concern for this thread, but you have to take it into account that Superman doesn't miss games.
PG- Chris Paul Deron Williams Steve Nash Chauncey Billups Devon Harris SG- Kobe Bryant Dwayne Wade Tracy McGrady Brandon Roy Joe Johnson SF- LeBron James Danny Granger Carmelo Anthony Paul Pierce Kevin Durant PF- Tim Duncan Kevin Garnett Amare Stoudemire Chris Bosh Pau Gasol C- Dwight Howard Yao Ming Al Jefferson Shaq Big Z
It says when healthy and Howard dropped 46, and he had to go OT to do it. Really, You must not watch much Rockets game yourself if you don't think Yao Ming is the better player than Howard, that or you probably think Yao is an underachiever because he's 7'6.
Would take Nash and Billups off for sure. Nash is the most overrated player I've ever seen in my 20 years of watching NBA basketball (Rondo is getting there), and Billups gets too much credit for the Nugz resurgence. Mr. Big Shot my ass. Maybe put Parker higher. I hate the Spurs just like everybody else but the dude has proven himself time and time again at the top level. Oh yeah, and Francis would be on there "if healthy". Would put T-Mac on that list, and take away Johnson or Roy. With "When healthy" in mind, of course. Granger needs to be higher. Carmelo is better than Pierce (who is one of my all-time favorites btw) now. Paul benefits from being a Celtic. Kevin Durant should be number 2 in a year. No denying LeBron though. Good PF list. I thought Al Jefferson played 4? Anyways, no joke, but I think Scola should be somewhere on there. Dirk over KG maybe at this point in their careers. Imagine Dirk would be all-time great status if his D wasn't so mediocre. At the 5 spot should be 1. Yao 2. Yao 3. Yao 4. Yao 5. Yao. No other player forces opposition to change their gameplan like. Don't let the numbers fool you. If you watch hoops then this isn't even really contestable. Dwight Howard sucks. Seen him live twice, most of his rebounds come from his teammates just running down court real fast so he can pad his stats. Chuck Nasty is a better rebounder than him, as far as understanding angles and timing. NUMBERS DON'T MEAN EVERYTHING
Have you seen Dwight constantly double teamed the way they do Yao? Even without the ball? Teams change their defense scheme due to Yao. Like Van Gundy said, Yao is the only player in the game who "Warps the court" (paraphrase)
PG 1.) Chris Paul 2.) Deron Williams 3.) Chauncey Billups 4.) Tony Parker 5.) Steve Nash SG 1.) Kobe Bryant 2.) Dwyane Wade 3.) Brandon Roy 4.) Joe Johnson 5.) O.J. Mayo SF 1.) LeBron James 2.) Carmelo Anthony 3.) Paul Pierce 4.) Kevin Durant 5.) Danny Granger PF 1.) Tim Duncan 2.) Dirk Nowitzki 3.) Kevin Garnett 4.) Pau Gasol 5.) Lamar Odom C 1.) Yao Ming 2.) Dwight Howard 3.) Al Jefferson 4.) Shaquille O'neal 5.) Hakeem Olajuwan
One of these threads comes up in the NBA Dish every month. The mods should just sticky one and roll with that.
How you are missing Dirk on your list is mind boggling to me, Do you not realize that he's easily a Top 10 player in the league and he is better than Yao Ming? Trust me, Yao is probably my favorite Rocket, but I can already tell you he is better than both Yao and Howard. Dirk led a team by himself to the Finals in 2006. I don't recall Amare, Bosh or Gasol doing that. Amare never even managed to make the Finals with 2 other all-stars on his team, Bosh is the softest player in basketball. The only one understandable is Gasol. I also don't get how is Danny Granger better than Melo or Pierce. You do realize that Granger has done nothing in the playoffs pretty much right? You do realize that he is stat padding on a junkie team? Danny Granger is an all-star but Melo and Pierce are further than that. Pierce won a ring and was the Finals MVP, Pierce is the 2nd best SF by a mile. That list needs to be fixed and it needs to be fixed big.
Eh, I forgot about Dirk, there are so many good power forwards though. You can bump down Big Z and put Shaq on there and put Gasol one above Shaq and you can have Dirk at 4 for power forward.
I favor guys who've proven they can play at a high level on winning teams. Guys who've shown they can dominate a game in a number of ways, and have strong leadership skills. I also think the traditional position designations -- PG, SG, etc. -- isn't how most teams looks at players any longer. A lot of players just don't fit into those categories. You have points, wings, or bigs, so I'll rank players on that basis. (and, yeah, I also don't feel like thinking of 25 players). Points 1. Chris Paul 2. Deron Williams 3. Steve Nash 4. Chauncey Billups 5. Baron Davis (fixed!) Wings 1. LeBron James 2. Kobe Bryant 3. Dwyane Wade 4. Paul Pierce 5. Manu Ginobili Bigs 1. Tim Duncan 2. Kevin Garnett 3. Dirk Nowitzki 4. Dwight Howard 5. Yao Ming
Yao not in front of Howard? Howard surpassed him? Or is Howard just better at the big position? Because if that was the case, Dirk shouldn't even be on there.
I don't mind that, I do believe Yao will show that he really is the best center in basketball. Yao has been known as a 2nd half player, he tends to do better after the all-star break. Dwight? Can't say that.
This is a fact that I think doesn't get pointed out very often, in fact I don't think I've seen anything about this. I feel like every once in a while I explain basketball to someone, and they ask what the different positions do, and maybe I'll say... "A PF kind of rebounds and defends and post players up. Well except him, that's Dirk Nowitski... he shoots 3's and scores a lot."
