He had problems with the same knee at least going back to 2007. So does he qualify for a medical retirement immediately?

I wonder if this make it more likely or less likely for Rockets to trade away Artest.

If McGrady is really done, the Rockets need to seriously consider shifting priorities to next season. I don't see this team, even with a healthy Yao and Artest, being good enough to make noise in the Western Conference playoffs. Just not enough playmaking on the perimeter.

That's a 12 month injury. The rox either plays him 25mins a night this yr till the end or shut him down.

Maby the reason this has been kept on the DL is beacuse the rocket's are targeting someone with a No Trade Clause
Maby if that player discovered that TMAC was unable to play, he would refuse to come to Houston.

    Um... Ben Gordon maby???

ben gordon has a no-trade clause? thought kobe is the only one who has that.

and why would gordon refuse to come to houston if that's the case? if mcgrady is unable to suit up, doesn't that mean a lot more minutes for him?

Gordon loses bird rights if he's traded this season. He would only agree to a trade where a team has the cap space to be able to re-sign him.

The Rockets don't have the cap space to re-sign Gordon with T-Mac on the roster. However if McGrady qualified for the disabled player exception that's another story.

Yeah, I'm pretty Ben Gordon has a No Trade Clause

You have to be in the NBA for 8 years, and with one team for 4 years to be eligible to have a No Trade Clause

Players that have been in the league that long just want to win a championship.
With a healthy TMAC the player might believe that houston has a chance to win
Without TMAC the player might believe he has a better chance to win somewhere else and might invoke the No Trade Clause if a trade was negotiated with houston

It might not be Ben Gordon, but maby another player with a NTC???

No trade clauses are illegal in the NBA.

Gordon cannot be traded because he signed an one year deal with his old team while holding bird rights.

You may be on to something:

DISABLED PLAYER EXCEPTION -- This exception allows a team which is over the cap to acquire a replacement for a disabled player who will be out for the remainder of that season (if the player is disabled between July 1 and November 30) or the following season (if the player is disabled after November 30). This exception can also be granted in the event of a player's death. This exception can only be used to acquire one player. The maximum salary for the replacement player is 50% of the injured player's salary, or the average salary, whichever is less . Approval from the league (based on a determination by an NBA-designated physician) is required for this exception to be used. This exception can be used to sign a free agent, or to create room to accept a salary in trade. When used for trade, the team may acquire a player whose salary (including any trade bonus) is up to 100% of this exception plus $100,000 (not 125%).

    Nasheb,

As one of the spokesman of good and justice here on this board,
I believed you and you are vindicated!

Once again, the jealousy of this board has shown it's face. I know you were trying to do a good deed by posting this.

    But they claim you hate.
    its their mistake.

How can you believe him when its been just about confirmed that Tmac is faking the injury and announced the surgery so he won't get traded? TMac is the Andy Kaufman of the NBA. Hes fooling everyone.

I was being sarcastic. Just wanted to poke fun at all the ridiculous fans and their conspiracy theories. I believed his initial post also. He said the team doctor said Tmac needed that surgery, he didn't say Tmac said that himself.

Looks like the limit is MLE money (average salary), which is lower than half of TMac's. That makes the Ben Gordon situation unrelated--MLE money is not in the picture with him. Nice call on the injury though.
