Funny how you make that statement but the facts show otherwise. Here is a quote from David Barron's column about the last ratings book, "KILT had a 1.8 average quarter-hour share and 132,300 weekly cumulative listeners to KGOW’s 1.2 with a 30,100 cume (three notches from the bottom for all rated Houston radio stations, which means it doesn’t have many listeners but those it has apparently do little else but listen to radio). KFNC (97.5 FM) was at 0.9 with 60,300 cume and KBME (790 AM) at 0.8 with 86,700 cume." Guess those Ragin Cajun commercials arent as bad as you thought.
Nuno and Palilo would make a great tandem if CP comes over to 1560. They can replace sean and john, cause those guys are almost invisible to the houston sports radio scene. I still like 610 for Wexler, Matt Jackson, and Adam Clanton has risen to the upper echelon of the radio guys (but you can tell Matt and Adam get alot of their material from this board).
Sean and John are invisible that they are no.2 and beat Palilo in the last ratings. Once again from the Barron column: "KGOW leads in morning drive while KILT lead in the other three dayparts. In afternoon drive, though, KGOW took over second, bumping KBME to third." http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/barron/6237843.html
If I'm out driving, I listen to the night shift after the 6pm shows (Longhorn/No Layups/Aggie/Cougar) shows, and the Recap (7pm most nights, 8 on mondays I believe) are done. I also listen to Todd Wright late when I get a chance (10-1am I think) Other than that, I'm pretty much on 1560 the rest of the day. 790 I would tune into for a few minutes to see how long I could put up with Charlie's one man show...normally lasted like 5 minutes. 97.5, maybe the only thing they have going for them is Murph, although he's a lot like fatty where he just hates things to hate things. I'd much prefer Murph back on FSN with the Rockets. As far as 610 goes, they have some good talent that's going to waste I think. One got canned recently, only to reemerge you know where. (Manny Schmera) Adam W and C are the other two. Rob Costa to an extent was ok, but I don't think I listened to him much. Rich Lord is awful, Matt Jackson is good, but being brought waaaaay down by Lord. Vandermeer was much better in his 1 hour solo hour after John/Lance back in the day. Mr Monotone also needs to go. That said, I prefer 1560's alternative to all those shows. Hoffy's schtick is no different than Rome. It's a persona, and nowadays I don't really want to listen to callers all day save for a few situations. (I will still listen to the Smackoff)
My only explanation is that a bunch of people accidentally leave their radio station on 1560 from earlier in the day when they were actually listening. Everytime I try to give them a chance and listen to them, I find myself quickly changing the station. They just have no inciteful nor interesting opinions. Maybe it's their personalities, cause they don't seem to have any.
I guess I should rephrase the previous comment. If it's between 7pm and 6am, and the Recap isn't on, I'll switch over. Recap = win. RECAAAAAAAAAP
Yes! Another am radio station thread. SOMEONE, HIRE SAM MALONE NOW! He's the top free agent. SEE YAH!
We are expiriencing success despite cousin brucie. Truly painful radio. I appreciate all of the comments. Positive and negative this board is and always has been a fantastic barometer. We ate doing things differently and unapologetically. So far it seems to be working. I did that video because I stumbled across a wind up 790 hopping football trinket that could nothave possibly been cornier. I am also a fan of monty python and dear sister. Voilà. The text on the back was on support of a prediction I made in the Houston Press that proved to be totally wrong.
Raheel I'm a big 1560 fan and honored to grace your sig! By the way...my 8 year old is the biggest fan of the Sean and John show...seriously, if he's in the car in the afternoon he's like, "TURN ON SEAN AND JOHN!!" Of course, he's a huge sports-fan-nerd, so he loves it. He also loves SEC Guy and goes online to hear his rants!
Thanks for the support man! Your line cracked me up on that thread! You should bring your son by an event sometime so he can meet Sean and John. Thanks for listening, Copernicus!
I used to listen to 610 all the time when I was in Houston, switching between kprc (news radio IIRC.) Living up in Nacogdoches now, I have tried to withstand the sports radio here but honestly it sucks. Since I found out about moodio from the 1560thegame site, I've been streaming it on my blackberry through my truck stereo lol. Love the No layups show, and it's great hearing Clutch on there.
Raheel, I think the deathblow to 790 would be to bring back "PJ Tucker's Pass or Fail" from our dominating Tuesday shows.
hahaha Pass or Fail! Here let's take a trip down memory lane with a Pass or Fail Episode http://odeo.com/episodes/1990966-September-26-Pass-or-Fail
AC deserves more than one hour and I'm glad he's on for some time with Andre and Marc, the only reason I'd turn away from John and Lance. I like Sean and John, but its getting harder and harder to listen to them the more and more time they devote to College Football. The only time I can stomach the college football talk is when Lance calls in as SEC guy. Harris shouldn't be a full time radio guy, he should be the guy they call on the phone to specifically talk college football for one segment.
Some of the local radio talk shows are the closest thing to the radio I loved back in the '60's. Not the "talk," but just the fact that they seem to have the ability to break away from the god-awful "formats" that have become radio these days, with most everything pre-recorded, with a short playlist in rotation. I miss the stations like KFMK, 1967-69, when the DJ's played whatever the hell they wanted. Listening was a gas, with new music constantly being played. You never knew what was going to come on, what was going to happen, who was going to be interviewed. The nearest thing these days is public radio, which has some good shows at times, but just isn't the same. An example of the old being better than the new, I guess. Hey, that was very funny, Chance!
