I just read on another site that, and I quote, " Talk in Houston is that K Garnett is getting traded to the rockets (sic) for Cuttino mobley, Eddie griffin, Maurice Taylor, and the 5th pick in this year's draft...." I have 3 questions... 1) Has this been addressed already? I haven't been around much ( in the middle of exams), and haven't seen it, but I could have missed it... 2) Is this, in fact, the talk in Houston? 3) Would you do it? The proponant of this rumour's seeming on-again, off-again relationship with capitals aside, if there is any credence to this rumour, it's certainly a big one....whattya think?
We wouldn't be able to fill out our roster if we made that trade. Who plays the 2 and 3? Who will backup at the 2 and 3? I could handle losing the 5 and Griffin in a deal for KG, but we can't afford to give up Cat unless we get a starting SG in return. This way we can use the #15 on a SF to fill that hole and go with a rotation of KG, Cato, and Kenny at the 4 and 5. I can say this, how does the salary match up on the trade you proposed? The only guy in the deal make a lot of dough is Taylor and KG counts $24 million against the cap next year. I think a guy like Rice would have to be included, maybe minus Cat but we'd give up our first rounder. So, our 5th and 15th, EG, Taylor, and Rice (to match up salaries) is about as good as we can do and still be able to fill out our team. We'd have to resign Walt or use our midlevel to fill out the 3 but I think it would be worth it to get KG.
My personal opinion, although I didn't want to put this in with the question, is that depending on KG's contract status, you gotta do it...I LOVE Eddie, but best-case scenario he ends up as dominant as KG overall, and that's hardly guaranteed...I believe that championships need 2 All-Star level players, and having them around the same age is better for longevity...KG and Stevie would make us a consistent contender for years, and building the extra pieces around them would be a lot easier then getting the cornerstones to begin with...
I would love to have KG, but that is way too much to give up. If it was 15 instead of Mobley I'd do it. I heard this trade being discussed on 610, but nothing official of course. I do not want to give up 4 starters for 1. What would our starting lineup be? Francis Oscar 15th pick KG Cato? That is not that good. I hope the Rockets for once do not gut the team once again. We have not had the same starting lineup for more then two years for God knows how long. Keep Cat, Francis, EG and Maurice. Try to trade for a veteran with our draft picks and KT.
I would do it sign Larry Hughes Francis 22ppg Hughes 12ppg KG 22ppg Thomas 14ppg Cato 7 ppg All Houston would be missing would be depth
No way in hell would I do that. It doesn't even make that much sense. What website did you go to? First of all Griffin could potentially be as good as KG. Second, Cat IMO is close to or as good as guys like Mike Finley. Also Min already has Sczerbiak. Why 2 two-guards? Then the fifth pick which could also potentially be a very quality starter. I like Mo, but he isn't untouchable. Another thing to remember is the serious lack of depth on this team. It's not like we'd have cap room to sign anyone else that's worth it. Chemistry is good with this core too. Maybe Mo and one of the picks, but Cat and Griffin is just too much. It's not like we're on the verge of a championship. I like the pieces we have.
heheh, the whole idea of trading garnett brings up some huge and out there trades.... So lets see what we can do.... We trade both our picks, Moochie, EG, KT, Cato and Walt. Walt having to be signed to a 1 year deal to whatever is needed to complete the trade. It should be close to the veteran minimum. I've had to guestimate on the rookie salaries. We'd get KG and Marc Jackson. It's a ludicrous trade but it should work up salary wise The Twolves get to start over with some very solid pieces, and get a backup PG making slightly more than Billups is now, and won't need to re-up a contract and overpay. We'd get the short end of the stick but have KG, who could fill both forward spots. And Marc Jackson who's cheaper than Cato and has the potential to develop in to a reasonable center. It won't ever happen but have at it
Francis + KG=55+ wins We would essentially be trading a PF who's softer than Charmin and is way overpaid in Mo Taylor. We would be trading a guy who should be a 6th man, in Mobley. And we would be trading a player who we WISH turn out to be like KG, in Eddie Griffin. This is a no-brainer. KG + Francis is a great nucleus. We wouldn't need the cap space to bring in a 3rd star. We would just need to bring in 10 role players, much like LA has set their roster up. Personally, I'd rather trade KT than MoT, but whatever. In all likelihood, EG will not be as good as KG is.
Cat is not a 6th man. Is Finley? Sczerbiak? Wesley? Stackhouse? That's one of the weakest things I read on this board. Every other post. I don't like the lakers, but KG isn't Shaq and Steve isn't kobe, (kobe's taller than Steve.) Plus we wouldn't have the money to go around loading up on role players. Really I don't see how it's a lock Eddie doesn't turn out to be as KG. If not as good, he will be close. Plus he already has more range. Oh yeah and he already does fairly well against Garnett, for a rookie of course. I say... Eddie 2 years from now + Cat > Kevin Garnett.
I would like to believe that one, and I voted yes on this poll myself...but when I think how Marbury+KG didn't work very well, I tend to worry about this. It's all hypothetical anyways though.
Another question is how much losing Mobley would piss off Francis. Could he deal with it or not? I think he would seeing how badly we played last year. Some changes need to be made and people can't be buddy-buddy forever. However, I still think we can't do this deal. The trade in and of itself is doable, but how can we possibly fill out the rest of the roster? Under contract we'd have Francis, Rice, T-Mo, Mooch, KT, Cato and KG. So, essentially we have Franchise, Garnett, a decent backup PG, a good roleplayer in KT, and 3 quadriplegics. We can't really afford to trade Mobley because we have absolutely no option at SG unless we move Steve there and start Mooch, in which case we'd have a subpar PG. Either way, we need to keep Mobley if at all possible. Besides, they don't really need a SG. Next year they'll have Billups, Brandon, and Wally to rotate in the backcourt along with EG, Mo T, Nesterovic, and Jackson at the 4 and 5. What they need is a SF, so they can start Rice for a year while they develop the high pick that we give them (whom they could use on Woods or Butler...possibly Ming if they're high enough in which case they use the #15 on a SF to groom)
Where did you read this? This trade proposal was discussed on 610, but I believe it was merely just a hypothetical trade that a caller made up. So where did you read this bogus rumor?
Marbury and KG were VERY young... I'd also like to think that Francis is a better player than Marbury. At the very least, Marbury and KG were better than the Rockets have been the last 3 years.
Wow. Cat is in that company of 2-guards? Let me say this before you say it, Kenny Thomas is as good, if not better than Duncan. Drugs aren't good for you.
How do you figure he's not? You mean to tell me that he's closer to a 6th man than these guys. If that's the case then practice what you preach on drug use.
There is no point arguing with Kidrock. He's been hating on Cuttino for a while now. As if shooting guards who score almost 22 ppg while shooting 43% are easy to find. You are right kidrock, Mobley is not in the company of Finley and Scherbiatch. HE IS BETTER THEN BOTH OF THEM. I would give you Cuttinos stats compared to some other shooting guards, but I know you wont care anyways. The only two guards that are definitely better then Mobley are: Kobe, Tmac, Iverson, Pierce, Stackhouse, and maybe 1 or 2 more.
Let me once again reiterate: Steve Francis and Kevin Garnett I believe do not like each other. Two games vs. the Wolves I've seen a lot of tension. First, a game at home in Steve's rookie season...him and KG got in a real heated discussion about a foul call. They walked to the benches glaring at each other. Then, last year in Minnie - Garnett has a habit of blocking after-the-whistle-practice-shots and after he swatted like, 2 of Francis', Francis came over to him pointing his finger with a lil bit of stuff to say to him in his face. The cam showed KG walking to the bench with a scowl. Just me observations.
Can someone explain to me why Cuttino Mobley would be a good 6th man, because I see him as starting material.
How about the 5th, MO T, Cato, and the 15th, We can throw in Walt. maybe Moochie. I mean we cant give up that much. if we give up griff, we have to keep the #5 pick. So either the #5 pick or Griff or else we would be swindled
