Would proper rehab have made a difference, if its true that his knee requires microfracture surgery? And if the MRI showed no difference, what the hell is going on here? The Rockets team doctors keep insisting there's nothing really wrong with the knee, and now he needs surgery?
Can I reply to my own post? Looks like the injury was real after all. Reminds me of the old joke: I want you to put on my tomb stone, "now do you believe I was sick?"
There could be two differing opinions on the surgery, one camp may think he does not need it and just needs to strengthen the quad through rehab, and the other may think he needs microfracture to clear up a small spot low on cartlidge. Both can actually work, but it can still be two differing opinions on what to do. DD
But Feigen/Blinebury have written that no one mentioned anything about missing cartilage. You say there's a small spot, but the Rockets have apparently denied, or refused to acknowledge, even that.
Probably two different medical opinions about how to treat his knee. 1. Rehab it and strengthen the muscle and it will get better. 2. Microfracture surgery Both may be viable and work, but it is up to Tmac and the doctors to make that decision. DD
Most of us have never experienced a traumatic physical injury. Nor do we realize what goes a person's mind as he tries to recover and function as he did before. And not everyone handles injury or illness the same way. Whether it's an injured knee or a broken foot, a mycardial infarction or a busted thyroid, it messes with you physically, mentally, and emotionally. Not eveyone heals the same way. And medical people are not gods - they do make mistakes or can be overly optimistic about recovery, especially when they have never experienced the process themselves. There almost always is a lingering doubt about whether recovery is complete or not, or if that residual pain/discomfort is something I have to live with indefintely. For example, I'm facing foot surgery this weekend with a 6-12 week recovery period - and then the docs have to fix the other foot with another 6-12 weeks of recovery. Will I be able to function again, and by when? What's the risks of a less than successful solution for my feet. Can I ever play ball again and at what level? I can only assume that these kinds of questions go through an athlete's mind if he or she is facing or recovering from surgery. In T-Mac's case, as a very highly paid athlete with a lot of folks' expectations on his shoulders, I imagine the pressure is not insignificant. On the one hand, he's got a bunch of doctors and "experts" (not counting "we experts" on this Forum) saying they can't understand why he can't "play through his recovery. Some people can, some can't - it's not our knee or our discomfort/pain. I believe T-Mac has tried to play through it and hasn't been able to - which further exacerbates his expectations for himself (not to mention our expectations for him). I think it's a combo of real pain/discomfort, fear for his career, along with his Star ego, fighting the other side of him which says he just can't do this yet. Persoanlly, I'm for cutting him all the slack he needs/wants, but I'm a big T-Mac fan.
Very rarely do teams look out for players. Teams do what's best for the team. Grant Hill,Peja, and even Yao will tell you that. That's why the player has to do what's best for him. Imagine if Hill wouldve shut it down instead of playing on a broke ankle. We would be talking about a hall of fame player. Yao was limping before he went down last year and that couldve been avoided as well.
With all due respect, I don't think this is correct. Wouldn't the microfracture suregery be indicated if there was cartilage wear, which can't really be helped by strengthening the muscles? Again, a reply by an orthopedic doc would help clarify.
he doesn't want to get traded...so he sought the opinion that would satisfy him, which was opting for season ending knee surgery. that effectively screws us from getting vinsanity. what a selfish, lazy, mclady.
So he's choosing a potentially career-ending surgery just so he won't get traded? Honestly, that makes no sense.
Some days ago i can't remember he said he could fly like before again. And few days later he said everything is not right and his injury was serious. How could one feel himself so far different in less than 10 days. At least i can't imagine. Tmac, where injury happens....
If you thought Tracey was faking you really dont pay attention to the game Tracey has had no lift all season I was wishing he shut it down ealier this season but he didnt cause idiots thought he was faking and he made the injury worse
The guy's knee hasn't improved no matter what he has done. I know you think all he had to do was rehab in the summer ( ) - but clearly the doctors missed this one badly and if anything made things worse. The first surgery was a failure. THe ROckets medical staff sucks. We know this. Look at all the problems and injuries they miss. Stress fractures turning into season ending injuries. This isn't the first time. T-mac of all people is very uninterested in surgery as an option. And for some people to say he's faking it? Not some, but the majority? This one is on the fans. It's gross. The guy is really hurt and people are acting stupid. I just don't get Houston fans sometimes. NY sticks by A-rod when he tried to cheat and is clearly going on tv and lying through his teeth...and yet we can't support a guy who played through pain and had to go through the embarrassment of being half the man when in reality his knee was actually in need of surgery? Makes you think all those photoshop t-mac's knee threads with vagisil in them are pretty disgusting. People should come forward and admit they were wrong at least. Not "wish him the worst" or say he's faking it to avoid getting traded. Next thing you know people will be saying 9/11 was a conspiracy theory and never really happened.
I don't believe he is faking injury. But i don't like his attitude to the playground. HIs so lazy man with lazy eyes.
Everyone that thinks he's faking it to avoid being traded are misinformed. Simply read Feigen's blog. We were NEVER interested in trading McGrady this year. In fact, we were never interested in Carter either. You can only imagine it's because of T-Mac's contract being more valuable next year, along with the lingering hopes he returns this year.
