A healthy McGrady of years past is far better than Vince Carter.

    IMHO.

Vince Carter is a much better fit for Rick's offense than McGrady is. Carter can actually shoot.

That said, I just don't know how much more of a chance he gives the team to win in all honesty.

It's no secret he loves the big splash, but he's always struck me as shrewd enough not to interfere with personnel decisions. He was against the Battier trade and Gay was the bigger splash.

He's strongly backed the big deals we've made, but they've been in line with management's strategy at the time. I can't see him pushing for this if Morey thought it was against our best interests. And I can't see why Morey would think otherwise.

not only that people who do not watch basketball are the one's who are saying tracy is just so much better than carter. Tmac has never been just way better than Carter look up the stats since it seems like a whole lot of you all aren't watching any other teams out there

People here are underestimating Vince Carter. Vince Carter was fantastic during his time with Toronto. If we do get Carter, it would be very good for Houston since Vince is just as good as Tmac when he's on his games.

Out of Amare or Miller. Vince is the better fitting for Houston.

here's a hint: the gripe against carter is his contract, not his production.

well that makes it even worse if you ask me. His contract is tradeable the year after tmac comes off the books, so what is the problem? I think it is great to be able to have back to back years of close to max contracts coming off the books

The stats Morey looks at are far more complex than what you see in the box score.

It's impossible to know what type of player Morey would want, because his standards are a trade secret of the organization.

That being said, generally we know a good player when we see it.

Carter is one of those players that seems good on paper, but since he hasn't really been a winner, it's hard to say how his stats would contribute to wins and losses.

    In Morey I trust.

Vince's #'s do look pretty good. I especially like the shooting percentages, but does it help that Vince has been playing with a good point gaurd for the last five years or does Vince just know how to get open looks better than t-mac??

The real question is are the Nets willing to allow this or any other trade proposal squander their playoff hopes. Last I checked they were pretty confident their back court would be the key to them making a late push.
It's hard to imagine they would be willing to take on such a huge contract with such uncertainty. They may not be contenders, but playoffs=$.

Don't forget, the Nets are also in the running for Lebron except I believe that their moving to brooklin fell through. T-Mac's expiring contract next year will be like gold.

He's given us hints. He wants someone who'll give a boost to the offense. He clearly values the things Tracy can bring when he's right -- Vince brings a lot of the same things.

He also seems to put some value on adjusted +/-, though the Rockets in-house methods for calculating it aren't known. Still, a more simplistic adjusted +/- is publicly available at basketballvalue.com, and according to that Vince Carter is a +5.6 per 100 possessions.

Morey's also said that he's not overly focused on 2010 summer, but he doesn't want to bring in bad deals either. How does Carter's contract fit into that?

From year to year throughout their careers, I think the sort of went back and forth between who was better. But I'm not sure Tracy has ever been far better than Vince.

    IMHO.

The funny thing is that I put the odds of LeBron or DWade leaving their current teams at less than 5%. All these idiots clearning out cap space are going to be disappointed in the summer of 2010.

Just for clarification, I think Vince Carter is fantastic, and if Mac were healthy, he would probably be the finishing piece.
