That article says nothing about what Memphis thinks. It's just posing questions and describing the article.

Morey -- Please, please offer Shane Battier to Memphis in exchange for Rudy Gay. Take a scrub to make the money right. See if they give you a grateful bear hug.

They won at least 45 games in the 3 years before the trade. They've won 22, 22, and are now on pace for 24 wins in the 3 succeeding years. They've gone through 4 different coaches. They've sucked both with and without the veteran "star" players they retained after the trade (Gasol and Miller).

Let's suppose that Battier for Gay was actually a steal for them. What went horribly, horribly wrong otherwise to account for them losing about 25 more games each year?

Yeah but I don't think it is all Gay's fault for all that. I don't just don't see how you can say that was the worst trade in the history of that franchise.

    I just don't see it.

And I wasn't trying to "pwn" anyone. It was a sincere question. I can't figure out how its possible that Rudy Gay is so much better than Battier, and yet the team is so dramatically worse. It's not like there was a huge drop in talent otherwise. The team got more athletic and added more promising young talent.

Here's a thought. Perhaps, as intriguing as athletic, offense-oriented players are, it actually takes veterans who knows how to defend to win a lot of games. Maybe that's why playoff teams tend to be older and wiser, and lottery teams tend to be young and inexperienced.

    Slip of the thumbs

1279 up, 158 down love ithate it
When sending a text message and the recipient of the message was not the intended recipient. Alternatively, when you try to reply to one person, and another message comes in just as you're about to reply, and you end up replying to the wrong person. This issue can have detrimental effects.
Girl to married guy: "Hey, what are you up to?"
(Guy is getting ready to reply, when he's distracted for two seconds, during which time, the following message hits his phone."
Wife to her husband: "I made it to Dallas."
(Now husband, thinking he's replying to his girlfriend says)
Husband to his wife (slip of the thumbs): "Nothing, my wife is out of town if you want to sleep over tonight."
    Wife to husband: "WTF!?!?!"

This was my thought when I read the response to my observation.

I've figured out these Rudy G. fans. They either a) don't care about winning, or b) don't understand what makes teams win.

Shane Battier = less athletic Robert Horry.
Rudy Gay = more athletic Sam Mack.

If you're looking for scoring or highlights, I guess you'd go with Gay.

However, you can't argue that Battier usually plays on winning teams (including Memphis) while Gay has yet to prove he can make a team better (winning-wise).
