IMO Rockets need to dump McGrady for an expiring contract. Whoever needs or wants an one year tieover marquee name until 2010 or wants to gamble on T-Mac's health... AI, Marbury, LaFrentz... Rockets need to make salary space for a chance at Ariza.

For what its worth, Chris Broussard just confirmed on 1st and 10 that all 3 Texas teams are/were interested in VC. Dallas won't let go of Josh Howard, SA won't give up any of their Big 3, but no mention of what Houston is or isn't willing to do. He went on to say that he believes that VC will ultimately stay in NJ now (and Amare will stay in PHX for that matter as well).

We basically got Artest for free, so that was a low risk proposition. As far as the names that you mentioned, I think it's a wash. We swap Ron for Maggette or Miller, I don't see much improvement, if any. Baron Davis' contract is way too long and pricey. Hinrich might be a minimal upgrade at PG, but probably not enough to get us out of the 1st round.

But, at the end of the day, we just can't get out of the 1st round in the West while we keep trotting Rafer out there as our starting PG. It's like handing the keys to a Porsche to Mr. Magoo.

If we could somehow get our hands on TJ Ford, this team could really take off.

lol Ariza?!? Sorry, I rather take my chances in 2010 with a crop load of great free agents.

Ariza is as good as Artest but with All Star upside and he won't cost the max. Adding Ariza next season still leaves room for a max player in 2010.

a last few years, in every game rox played utah, tmac was really bothered by harpring's hustle. in this year, ron really knocked harpring around. i was so happy to watch these games this year. if you have watched these games, you know what i mean.

I kind of like him. With Ron out, the only good dunker on the team would be Wafer... We need someone like Ariza, to storm the other team out and not get blocked by the rim

None of whom we're gonna get.

Well, maybe Stoudemire, MAYBE, but it'd be tougher to convince him to join a 30 year old Yao at that time.

If that happens, I bet Yao will be fouled out every time

Thanks Clutch, but I think if we get Miller we can't trade Artest. If T-Mac wasn't such of a scrub anymore then it would be a good deal but with T-Mac's lack of contributions we need another guy that can create his own shot.

I don't see how Amare would work together with Yao and Tmac.

If for anything this should be a trade of Tmac for Amare.

And given up Landry and Brooks? come on, where's our future?

I really liked the look of Ariza when he came out and was with the Knicks, and was mystified for a while as to why he could never making the leap as a starter.

In his 5th year and 3rd team, it's becoming more and more obvious that he's MISERABLE as a shooter, despite having a perfect 6-8 athletic NBA build and willingness to to play hard on both ends.

I don't see him ever sniffing the All Star Game, but I think he is a fantastic bench player at the swing positions.

The big thing about moving Artest is securing a reliable 20-point scorer. We almost have to assume that McGrady is not going to be himself again this season, and building only role players around Yao is a risky gamble. So far, we've been fine this year with in-and-out, unreliable scoring from McGrady and Artest because Yao's having a solid season. But god knows we have to have a plan B on this team (this season, it would qualify as plan D).

    That would suggest Carter.

What would you give up for Miller, Salmons, and maybe Udrih?

So are the Rockets looking at a three-way deal with Sacramento and Minnesota? If that is what the Rockets would get back, then McGrady would need to be the one jettisoned (presumably to Sacramento if we're taking that putrid contract of Beno Udrih's). Who else would be involved from the Kings and T-Wolves??? . . . hypothetically, of course.

I guess you'd have to give'em back Artest, add Luther, but then where do you go? If the Kings want to shed contracts, who can you add? And would you keep Miller or send him to a third team that needs him more than we do?

Rumors is that the Kings were very interested in getting Brooks for Artest way back when.

Might not be a 3 team trade if the Miller that Doc Rocket listed is Brad Miller.

    Perhaps he meant Brad Miller?

Does anyone know if T-Mac has a no trade clause in his contract of any sort, IF he were to be the one traded? I tried to trade him 2k9, but that b*stard denied it
