I got this off of X's and O's and it just reminded me of all missed shots we have under the basket. Do you think the Rockets do something like this?? Cause the whole darn team sure does miss a lot of layups!! I know this bothers a lot of people here so I am curious. Do they actually blow an obscene number of layups or do I just imagine that they do? Someone find a stat to back me up or prove me wrong. I know there is something at 82games that does close in shots but I couldn't find it... does it figure out the percentage of layups we blow?
Add in Scola and Yao and it could take a millennium. That's what I am saying... do they practice these things or is it just because we can't shoot with anyone around us?? What's the deal.
Honestly, When is the last layup that Tracy or Shane made? Exactly. Btw, Chuck is actually not bad at layups, It is the other stuff....Like everything other than layups...
I think we just have a lot of players who are either undersized or can't jump 10 inches off the floor -- or both.
Yeah, maybe 80% of his shots used to be layups. Now he takes a lot more contested hook shots for some reason.
I agree with you. If it wasn't for Yao we would be the Old Phoenix Suns before they added Shaq. Amare was there tallest player. After Yao I believe Scola is the tallest player. Im not counting Deke because he doesn't play.
Rocket's layup/2ft shot percentages - per hotspots. Link to Hot Spots Rafer .425 Ron .433 Hayes .373 Scola .592 Yao .603 Tmac .477 Battier .452 DD
Yeah, that's pretty ugly. In his 1 1/2 season with Van Gundy, it was over 57% for Chuck. Last year it was 55.5%. And now, it's 37%. He hardly attempts a shot anymore, and when he does it's typically a short hook he's trying to drop over a defender. He's totally out of sorts this year as a finisher. Scola has generally been a good finisher for us. He struggled at times as a rookie; not so much any more. And Landry is strong -- 69% last year, 66% this year.
Yeah but exactly how high do you have to get off the floor to make a layup?? Thanks DD for the hotspots link, Scola isn't as bad as I thought, probably because he gets a lot of those fast break layups. Yao I think it's all the missed dunks rather than missed layups. Maybe the numbers depend on what we call a layup.
More than anyone on the team not named Battier, Chuck needs TMac...without him, he is barely a NBA player. DD
Those are all like 2 foot shots, most layups and dunks but some others.....where you COULD lay it up... DD
Perhaps. Here's the breakdown in his FG% playing with McGrady and without McGrady on the floor each season he's been in the league (source). Code: with T-Mac w/o T-Mac min FGA/40 FG% min FGA/40 FG% 05/06 189 9.1 .465 345 7.2 .629 06/07 1108 8.4 .594 605 6.7 .525 07/08 936 5.6 .500 640 5.6 .527 08/09 191 4.4 .476 406 5.0 .235
Well, there is only 82, Do you watch more than that... How bout these apples.... Chuck Hayes career 53 percent from the field... He is getting spot minutes this year, but when he was a starter(If you had watched those games) you would remember that Chuck was not half bad at finishing around the cup.... First year-56% Second year-57% Third year-51% He was a starter in his second year, and started half the season last year... Again, In spot minutes he has struggled. Lets be real, he takes maybe 1 shot a game........Tough to play like that...
If Clyde Drexler says that you cannot play in the NBA if you cannot make layups while talking about Chuck, then I am pretty sure Chuck sucks at making layups. Spot minutes or not, a layup is still a layup.
