Do you happen to know how much Gasol make? And can you remind me what he has done when he was in Memphis?

I agree with you that Yao need to get the first win in playoffs but it really needs 5. Even Kobe couldn't do it on his own and I can't name anyone else at his level yet.

Another useless, overpaid know-it-all sportswriter shootin' his/her mouth off?

Where is his sources pointing to Yao earning over 20 million a year?

Does anyone else find these accusations to be credible?

The only thing that has been said is Yao would like to come back with Houston in 2010....how does someone make the assertations of the deal, when no terms haven't even been offered, yet.

This is the same bullS#it that was being implied over ESPN about Artest being a lockerroom cancer.

These sportwriters are no better than some of the hacks who are employed over at TMZ and the National Enquirer.

I guess you forgot about the 1st team all nba on offense and defense. You get on those team from coaches and gms, not internet fan voting.

Well, almost certainly, Yao WILL get the max offer from either Rockets or other teams, which averages more than 20M a year. That's for sure. The argument here is whether Yao worth this kind of money basketball wise.

Gasol doesn't earn max dollars, I don't believe, and he certainly wouldn't be deserving of a multi-year max contract at age 30.

simple. if he does get multiple max offers (i assume he'd opt out in 2010), then he's worth it - the market say so.

gimme another player (not only center or big man) today who is doubled more heavily and often than yao.

and i don't see his game changing much 2 years from now.

    Another Yao hater!
NBA is business. And yao is worth to pay the contributions he has given to both the team and boss

Most NBA teams will offer Yao max anyway. Rashard Lewis got 20mil per season.

Very simple. Because other teams will off him max.

Les should trade TMAc in this offseason if he realizes Yao does not have many good years left. Or he just trades Yao away and everybody will be happy.

What a big deal. Amare was on the first team and has been ahead of Yao on the list almost every year. People were comparing him with Yao and most of those "coaches and gms" you mentioned picked Amare ahead of Yao. Now, the "better-than-yao" Amare is being shopped around NBA like a scrub. Amare didn't even ask for a trade; it is quite clear that he also realized that he would be nothing without Nash.

Yao is underpaid. Period. Just imagine how much he would get if there was no salary cap.

Actually, the Suns shopping Amare has nothing to do with his basketball value and everything to do with the Suns' dire financial situation. Sarver just wants to unload the big contracts.

Honestly speaking, Yao at $22 million would be market value. It wouldn't be a horrible signing in the same way that Rashard Lewis was overpaid. Barring injury, I can guarantee you that other teams would offer Yao a max contract.

Wow. That article was as blatantly biased as I have seen in a while. Yao certainly has weaknesses in his game. If his career ended tomorrow he would not be named on any reasonable (or over the age of 25) person's top 10 all time NBA Centers.

    But...

He is a 20/10 guy who is the most unstoppable one on one player in the league. He nearly automatic for 2 points when he catches the ball down low with single coverage whether it be from a basket or a trip to the free throw line. If you look around the league and see the type of money so many players are getting then Yao definitely deserves the big contract. Not a 7 year deal but certainly 3-4 years at whatever price he names.

This writer sets a completely different set of goals for Yao as a "max player" while ignoring the loads of guys in the league getting max deals who have done no more than Yao has. You can't single Yao out without looking around the league and seeing the trend toward how players get paid.

    All GMs/coaches?

It only takes a few GMs willing to offer a player a max contract to make him a max player.

You're right, that's certainly a very good point.

Is there a list any where of all the max player in the league? It would be interesting to compare their age and resume to Yao's.
