Two years from now McGrady will be off the books and Vince will be approaching the final year of his contract. (Assuming, of course, that we decline the team option for the last year of his deal)

No, I think Ron contributes both offensive and defensive!
Carter is old and his contract is too long and too big!

You have to. I hope Morey can pull it off without losing Scola, Brooks or Landry as well, losing them, it would be real tough to pull the trigger.

Not in a million years. Artest has something that VC doesn't have. That's called heart.
Not to mention we'd have to throw in either Battier or Alston+ to match the salary. (Granted Les won't go over the lux for VC, nor should he)

On the other hand if it's McGrady for VC + filler then I'd do it no matter who that filler is.

No way! Carter has a terrible contract that extends through the 2010 season,
hurting our chances of landing any big name free agent in 2010. Plus, if you
think the Rockets suck on defense right now, they'll be worse with Carter.

No. Carter has 1 maybe 2 good season left him in. How will everyone feel when he is getting paid those big dollars and can't even crack the rotation in a few years?

dude what are you talking about? he only has 3 years left on his contract with a team option on the 4th....so he will only be here for 2 years because he would be an expiring deal in his 3rd...it is not as bad as you are making it

Absolutely not. No more of that gene pool is necessary in a Rockets uniform. We need a physical player that is a leader. Carter or him bum cousin are neither.

I like this idea, and it wouldn't be too farfetched at this point.

    Toronto is dealing.

Anthony might not be in their long-term plans.

I also like the idea of Jarvis Hayes.

Carter doesn't play much defense, but the only reason why I might consider doing it would be because Ron can walk away at the end of the season if it was possible as a straight up trade(which it isn't). Carter still has some game left.

I am 400% for the trade. Look, this is what we will get:

Half man half amazing + half man half season = One man + one smazing season

Deal McGrady for him straight up. They save money, we get Vince.

The great thing about Vince is that he's a quality passer. McGrady is getting the assist numbers, but his assists suck the life out of his team and reduce the total number of FG attempts and team assists that we can get.

Time can't take two things away from Carter: He's an excellent 3-pt shooter, and he's an excellent passer within the flow of the offense.

He is more likely to break the "no heart" tag than McGrady. He is just as likely as T-Mac to put up 40/6/6 in a playoof game as McGrady.

Also, Vince's style is more suited to Yao as well as Artest.

MOST importantly, every measure of defensive impact i've ever bumped into has shown that VC is extremely defensively underrated. He's not necessarily great, just better than average. That, to me, is important.

Ryan Bowen also have a lot of heart. Maybe we should get him

I don't understand how anyone would want to keep Artest. Have you not noticed his field goal percentage?

Unless Artest's money expiring can go towards prying Bibby (free agent I think?) away from Atlanta this summer, id do this trade.

I voted keep Artest, but only if the following are true:

    1) He can gel with Yao and accept the role of being the #2 or #3 guy
    2) Mgmt has confidence of signing him next year.
    3) His contract won't be overprice (maybe $10-12 mil range)
