It strikes me that Adelman's tenure in houston after taking over for JVG is becoming an awful lot like Saunders' tenure in detroit after taking over for Larry Brown. In both situations the team moved from a controlling, defensively oriented coach to a more offensive minded coach. In both cases the year immediately after the change resulted in a good regular season and limited playoff results. In both cases the second season began to reveal a lack of trust and buy-in to their offensive systems. The same kinds of grumblings in the media, the same dysfunctional behaviors, an increasing eschewing of the "system" in favor of isolation basketball . . . I wonder if we can learn from the Pistons' experience and right the ship before it completely capsizes?
Saunders got to the ECF every year with the Pistons. Does anyone think there's any chance they win two playoffs series this year? If you want to make that comparison, that means we should keep Adelman.
but that team was a legitimate title contender (and former champion) in a really weak eastern conference. flip definitely underachieved with that team, given the circumstances, because they didnt buy into his system.
The Team flip inherited went to the finals the year before he got there. Flip took the same team to the ECF every year he was there. The Team adelman inherited were eliminated in the first round 3 years in a row. Really no comparison flip also kept that defense in the top 5

That same team also got tired of Larry Brown. They got tired of his old school ways and got a looser Flip. So is it the coaching or the players?
Flip had no record except for the when Cassell took them to the WCF. Adelman on the other hand has had years of success in this league and hasn't gotten to the finals. Adelman is much more like Phil. He lets his players find their own way. You can't blame Adelman for this year. When your franchise player who happens to make about the a third of the salary cap goes MIA for most of the season, how do you think its going to turn out? Also, how many games did we win without McGrady before Adelman got here. I think Adelman is doing a great job considering we are still in the same position as we normally are without our most talented player.
The interesting question would be is Adelman = Scolari? For those who have been following soccer, do you see any similarities between these two coaches's situations?
adelman won't be let go in the midst of this season. considering all the injuries as well as all the weird situations brought by mcgrady, i don't think adelman has under-achieved so far.
Twice with Portland my man, 0 with the queens. I do believe there are similarities between the 2. Going from task master and attenton to detail to a more lax x and o type.
There's no comparison. They won a championship! We didn't... Plus with Flip they still got outta the first round of the playoffs.
