I thought there was no actual record book. How do you then regulate the records? Do you demand that everyone that lists HR leaders to NOT list bonds? Because if they list hime but just note his doesn't count thats technically an astrisk, not being wiped.

This whole record thing is r****ded.

They have to do one or the other.

Either wipe the named of players that test positive out of the record books.....or say its ok to take drugs and get on with it.

I gave up on baseball years ago due to all the strikes, but tried to get back into it not too long ago when the Astros were making a run for a World Series win. I never could get back into it. As an outsider to baseball looking in, I have to agree - MLB is a joke. Its leadership is a joke and many of the sport's modern-day stars have turned into nothing more than thieving ass-clowns. I don't know if I'll ever bother attempting to follow the sport again like I did in the late 70's and 80's as a kid. Seriously, MLB is just vulgar.

Is he going to go after all the players that used to use speed too?

it's woefully hysterical watching him squirm his way around this mess... they've known this entire time, they were just too busy with their record profits to give a ****.

i hope someone punches him in the face.

Bonds has never tested positive for steroids. Why take away his achievements?

He's admitted to unknowingly using the "cream" and the "clear". He said Greg Anderson applied it but that he didn't know what it was. Bonds used steroids. That much is a fact. What remains in question is whether he knew about it or if Anderson was giving it to him without his knowledge.

In Bonds' perjury case, prosecutors allege that they have evidence that Bonds tested positive for steroids in 2000 and that they will present that evidence at trial. The trial starts next month so I guess we'll see.

Its been almost a full decade that they've let this steroid thing cloud the sport. Almost a full decade of players rewriting records books. Allowing fans new and old to form "bonds" with their favorite players over that time.

Its exactly what it looks like though - Steroids was SO widespread it would have destroyed the sport to boot out all the users, so it was best to just let it go for as long as possible. Especially when it wasnt affecting the gate numbers. If it was only a handful of players, or just 1% of all players, they'd have dropped the gavel on them hard and wiped them out the sport long time ago.

I don't think it is fact because he's never tested positive for it. If he didn't know what it was, how does he now know it was the "cream" or "clear"?

I remember him saying that he thought what was applied on him was flaxseed oil... the investigators are the ones saying it was actually steroids... and the closest Bonds has come to admitting it is him saying "well I thought it was flaxseed oil. If it was the cream, I didn't know."

Greg Anderson has never testified that he applied those steroids on Bonds. So, I don't think it is a fact that he took steroids.

Why don't we just erase the last 15 years of baseball...just pretend that the 1994 strike lasted for 15 years... :D

I don't know why another professional league has not attempted to compete against MLB. We've had professional leagues compete (and fail) with the NFL and NBA.

MLB has the worst image of the 3 and is probably the easiest sport to find talent.

There is one LeBron. There is one LT. There is not one A-Rod. Some dude in AAA or Latin America could be just as good.

If he was, they'd find him. MLB has its fingers all over Latin American talent. Cuba has some gems that can't get here. Outside of that, MLB has a very large Latin contingent playing and academies to develop talent from there. I don't get how you make the assumption that there might be another A-Rod out there somewhere..but there can't possibly be another Lebron out in the world somewhere.

I realize this is an NBA-centric message board and that views are often colored by a sense of competition among leagues. But it's funny to hear some of you talk about the reputation of MLB being in the toilet...ignoring the fact that people are jamming the parks and revenues are ridiculously high. And all that in the wake of this "scandal." The bottom line seems to be that the paying public isn't nearly as concerned with this scandal as the media is.

Baseball and its oversanctified record book makes it do very embarrassing things. I guess we're going to have to wait for the baby boom generation to die out for it to stop. After that, nobody's really care about 750 home runs or 61 home runs anymore.
